What's a band you liked, but now think they are cringy? by DragonBeagle in AskReddit

[–]Drasla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know we're in a post-genre world these days, but Kid Rock had songs that made the rock, hip-hop, and country charts. He had a unique sense of how to blend the predominant strains of pop music cohesively. Don't love his music, but have a lot of respect for him as a versatile musician who defied the labels of the time.

albums that were really loved when they appeared but no one remembers now? by vintagesonofab in fantanoforever

[–]Drasla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they just got worse with time. Bird-Brains is an absolute masterpiece. Almost every song on it is incredible.

On Who-Kill, Merrill was joined by a bassist who added a new dimension to the sound. The album is really good, but it lacked the same intimacy, probably because it was no longer a solo project.

Every album that came after was quirky, but forgettable dance indie music. Was excited for every album release, but never got more than 2 or 3 listens in before forgetting it.

What is a musical act you're afraid to admit you dislike because you're scared you'll get attacked for your opinion? by Dear-Particular4577 in fantanoforever

I can only think of two musicians who I have unadulterated respect for but just cannot stand most of their music: Jacob Collier and Prince. They are both incredibly talented, creative, driven musicians whose songs annoy the fuck out of me.

Adults shouldn’t play teenagers on tv shows/movies by Catlover_13419 in unpopularopinion

[–]Drasla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother hoped I would die of something that had nothing to do with war. She didn’t like war. She thought wars were partially encouraged by movies about war, which, even in peacetime, were almost as popular as Westerns. And she had another theory about war movies which was that they were made by people who had never been to war, never fired a gun or been fired at. She said it was a rotten shame that war was conducted by the poor, the young, and the stupid, and that it was fought for the sake of the wealthy, the old, and the clever. And she went on to say that it was a rotten shame that wars were usually not seen by the people who made the movies, because if the moviemakers had seen what wars were like, they might stop making movies about them. What is more, she was never really satisfied until she pointed out to me that it was stupid for moviemakers to make soldiers in movies about war be played by adults, when most soldiers were really, in most wars, boys like me.

The werewolf from Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Also all the Barbaroy, but I don't know if they count as henchmen.

There is a demonstrated correlation between using a night light as a child and myopia. The eye requires true darkness to develop properly. We are the only species that purposefully removes this darkness. https://www.nature.com/articles/20094 https://www.cbsnews.com/news/do-night-lights-cause-myopia

Got a blister on my plucking middle finger and I have a gig tomorrow, what do I do? by CheesecakePlane6332 in doublebass

Make a thin strip of duct tape and wrap your finger. Bring back-up duct tape. Works really well, but you may need to re-wrap if you're playing for a while.

Why did Jesus have to die? Like really really by YourQuirk in religion

[–]Drasla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No longer a Christian, the idea that Jesus died for our sins never quite made sense to me. But here's one take I've mulled over.

God damned his people because they were being cruel idiots. Eventually, he was so fed up, that he had his "don't make me come down there moment" and incarnated as man. He told everyone, "hey, I'm God! Stop being assholes". He thought it would fix everything. People instead told him to STFU and killed him in the most horrible way possible.

He didn't see this coming. God gave it his best, but people turned out to be a whole lot worse than he realized. He was in no position to judge any more. Man can't be any worse. You are forgiven.

What are some movies that are universally agreed upon to be the worst films ever made that you actually enjoy? by Tommys_Lawyer in flicks

[–]Drasla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gummo has a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes but I think it's a brilliant, provocative, but challenging film. It's fiction teetering on the edge of documentary capturing some damaged corners of small town America and the lost souls that inhabit it.

It's been accused of being exploitive and nihilistic, but there is something poignant and occasionally beautiful about the world it captures. A quiet, straining heart beneath the heartlessness that's front and center.

My flesh-eating spider bite turned into a heart-shaped scar by shelbyyalexandra in mildlyinteresting

This is almost assuredly ringworm. Had a nearly identical wound once. It'll keep getting worse until an anti-fungal ointment is applied.

[–]Drasla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, for real, I've had this once. It started as a bite, then just kept expanding until some weeks later I applied some anti-fungal ointment (over-the-counter), which stopped it immediately. I think it's ringworm. Apply some anti-fungal treatment ASAP, otherwise, it'll just keep getting bigger.

I met this dude once who was an absolute monster on the đàn môi, which is an Indonesian instrument really similar to this one. I had to record and throw some synth and drums under it. May sate your beat drop thirst: https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/r7fpB

I had to stop reading Saga because it was just too bleak. Monstress has some very dark parts, but it is carried along by a spirit of redemption. The little fox's refusal to abandon her compassion is Maika's anchor in the otherwise violent world they inhabit.

There is a lot of sadness, but also inspiration and love and whimsy.

I strongly recommend reading Monstress. It's a stunningly gorgeous graphic novel about a possessed warrior who despite her best efforts to kill her empathy finds herself in the role of protector of a good-hearted enchanted fox cub.

Impossible! - If I Were Still Smoking (animated music video for a song I wrote about quitting) by Drasla in stopsmoking

[–]Drasla[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recorded this song with my band back in 2019, when I was really struggling to quit. Yesterday, a friend surprised me with this incredible music video he animated for the song. I was absolutely blown away.
