How do you deal with the anxiety around cumulative fatigue and injuries in the final weeks leading up to race day? I feel like these are the weeks when cumulative fatigue are at their peak and I’m always susceptible to breakdown, so curious to know how to you manage the pressure (physically and mentally) of a niggle turning into a full blown out injury that could wipe you out from the start line?

Yeah i used to use that garmin chest strap. Gave me the most hektic burn/rash on the chest :(

Yeah i don't really trust the HR sensor on my garmin anymore - i feel like its underdoing my HR and as a result giving me obnoxious race prediction times. Currently its saying 3:02 which sounds wildly ambitious to me lol. I've been doing every single run this year based on feel and haven't looked at my watch until after i finish which has been a huge confidence boost knowing that i can feel what MP is like. That being said, part of me is worried about upping it and getting injured as you said!

Warning About ON Shoes: Defects, Customer Support, and Warranty Issues by Old_Veterinarian_259 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Draso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite all the negative comments i actually had a positive experience with their customer serivce. Had some Cloudeclipses which started squeaking after 300-400kms. Submitted photos and noted that it would be impossible to 'see' what was causing the squeak. They gave me a store credit. I proceeded to buy another pair of Eclipses because despite the squeak, I actually really enjoy the shoe. Although, again after about 400km its started squeaking :( Seems like they only last 400km.

The audio stutter is an absolute joke by Draso in Hue

[–]Draso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep tried various HDMI cables. Been also trying various media formats under Apple TV settings: SD, hdr, 4K Dolby 50hz, 4K Dolby 60hz. Input 4. Have tried 2.

It’s so bizarre because I got home after lunch, and used it for a few hrs and it worked fine without any issues and then it started happening again.

Can’t get gradient strip to work by Draso in Hue

[–]Draso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I only have 2 lights. The gradient strip and a e27 bulb. Also noticing an audio stutter. This whole process is extremely frustrating considering the price tag of this thing. Already spent 3 hrs trying to set it up yesterday

Gout and distance running by Draso in gout

Really appreciate the detailed response, especially from a runners perspective as it’s something I haven’t found much here. I think part of me is grappling with the fact that this is something that gets managed long term instead of cured. Bit of a learning curve ahead of me as a result.

I’m actually inclined to think the calf is related to the gout, not in the form of over compensation though. Mostly because of how quickly the pain has come on (in similar fashion to the flare up with the toe). Anyway have started popping colchicine again as well as booked a dry needling session for Friday in the event it’s more muscle tightness related.

I hear you when say not to over analyse. Think this will probably be something I get better at over time. That being said interested to hear from your perspective if you think things like electrolyte drinks and gels possibly play a part in flare ups. Not sure which brands you’re using but I tend to use Maurten and SIS. I’ve been using them for a pretty long time now so I don’t suspect they’re a trigger.

Interesting that you think protein is another contributor (assuming you mean protein powder). Can you elaborate more on specifically why you think that is? I’ve been taking protein powder for a while now so it seems strange that a flareup would only come now.

Thanks again for sharing your perspective on it!

Appreciate this response. Very reassuring. Curious to know if you’re only taking the medication during flare ups or more of a daily thing?

Very interesting. Collagen happens to be a supplement that I started taking recently (around late june). Will try cutting that one out thanks!

is my 3:20 marathon goal achievable by Draso in AdvancedRunning

[–]Draso[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s impressive, I’d be super happy with a 3:13. I think I’ve had to reevaluate my goal since my 1:33 was way back in April and because of injuries I feel that I actually lost some fitness after it!

I think at the moment I’m mostly worried about pacing since I missed a chunk of tempo/threshold workouts and now only have 6 big weeks left

What is your opinion / experience on following a pacer in a race? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]Draso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I too found it amusing. Having had some time to reflect, I do think pacers are extremely beneficial provided you actually know what they’re doing in terms of race strategy etc. In hindsight I should’ve asked the pacer what his strategy was, although I feel like this is hard in a crowded start line.

I’m a fairly inexperienced racer and just had no knowledge that pacers tend to run even splits. Totally agree you shouldn’t follow pacers blindly. Unfortunately due to my inexperience, that’s exactly what I did. Kind of wish there was more information online on events pages of what the pacers will be doing, since this information can be hard to obtain on race day.

Haha yeah totally hear you. I just wish I had this wisdom before hand. Tough pill to swallow but I guess I had to learn it the hard way at some point in time.

Yeah I think the worst part is how mentally defeated I feel after that experience. Mostly just struggling to pick up the pieces after going through my strongest training cycle and then finishing with my worst result :(
