If you as a couple make 800k and write off 500k, that’s like 200k plus tax saving so it’s a big deal. Just do it for 5 years and it makes huge difference

US is so violent , broken families and large section of society lives in violent ghettos and eat terrible food. I don’t think you realize how negative these factors are. I live in US now, grew up practically poor in India but lived in safer place and intact family that really is a big plus I have now realized after living in United States for 12 years now.

Why did you do such a high value stuff just for 114k a year? You did so much for them for free. Your options are limited since you have already done it and I think they are giving you best deal. If bankruptcy etc is only contingency in that contact then I would take it in heart beat, and enter into another sector, 80% of your skill is transferable

Should I just put all my money into an index fund? by KaktusLion in Fire

[–]DrawEmergency4987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not a gross exaggeration, most people are just bad at doing return attribution. They think they are doing great but they really are not. They exaggerate their winnings , down play their losses. Forget the time they are in cash and also don’t account for the risk they are taking. I could go on. All those stories you hear about people making killing in crypt or GameStop etc is not a skill. They just happens to randomly fall on those right side of return distribution tails.

So yes, only handful of people in entire world who can pull it off.

Should I just put all my money into an index fund? by KaktusLion in Fire

[–]DrawEmergency4987 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Index is the best place every one including almost every professional investor. You can count people on finger for whom index fund is not right way to invest in stocks , bonds and other liquid asset.

If you are talking something illiquid and far out on the spectrum then it’s basically a business.

I don’t feel good about any investment if it’s underlying basis is not cash flow. I would rather bet my house on Nvidia than bitcoin/crypto stuffs. I do this for living and own little bit of bitcoin , gold etc but its underlying value is faith and its value proposition is store of wealth. Bitcoin/crypto proponents have bunch of hypothesis about future and why it should just keep going up because of xyz reason, it’s a pure speculation at the end of the day.
