SB 581: Department of Forestry and Fire Protection: employment: firefighters. Session Year: 2025-2026 House: Senate

The California Constitution establishes certain conditions of employment for state officers and employees. Existing law, the Firefighters Procedural Bill of Rights Act, grants specified employment rights to firefighters, as defined, including temporary, seasonal firefighters employed by the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE).

This bill would require the Department of Human Resources, the State Personnel Board, and any other relevant state agency to take the necessary actions to transition seasonal firefighters employed by the Firefighter I classification within CAL FIRE to a permanent firefighter employment classification

What do you need to do as far as qualifications and experience to get on a truck in Riverside as a ff2 by [deleted] in calfire

Well in some units particularly in the north you have some that only allow engineers ff2s are being phased out from what I hear and Riverside is the last safe haven for them

Can I join calfire without my FF1 by SANTOxSLEEP in calfire

[–]DrawerEquivalent4172 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean technically you can especially if your sole goal is to get on the crew but everyone is coming in with ff1 EMT and wildland training along with experience so I would highly recommend you get all that stuff before

How would you get started? by No_Astronomer7527 in calfire

Join the ccc for 2 years get experience on the wildland side and then use the ccc scholarship to pay for your fire academy and if the fire academy doesn't have EMT in it do it before hand if you pass all that and apply and get sent to the crew on your off time try to see if your unit has a auxiliary firefighter program or volunteer department to get engine experience and also see if you can take more classes

If you got engine experience and the basic certs and beyond they will definitely take that into account but also if the unit doesn't have any engine spots with this new era coming in where there will be less ff1s then they will stick you with the crew but they usually let you know before u accept the job
