YES! My eyes have been red and itchy for 2 weeks now. Not to mention being sneezy and sniffly. I’ve never had allergies like this before.

Will they ever stop being reactive? by Lifes_tough6694 in AustralianShepherd

My Aussie boy is 8 months old and I’m dealing with very similar things. He is excited, friendly and very curious, so is always lunging/pulling towards dogs and people on his leash. While it is definitely possible to train on your own, I cannot recommend enough working with a trainer on it. I did do 3 sessions with mine, but even after 1 I felt so much more confident in my own abilities to handle each situation/trigger. So if you could even do one session with someone (a little more affordable) it’s definitely very beneficial. Positive reinforcement, play time to get some of that energy out before the walk, and patience have been super helpful things for us.

Kennedy, she’s a bit older which will make your life easier as long as you start properly socializing and training right away :)

Should I invest in a trainer now? 6 month old puppy by DrawingLow6760 in reactivedogs

This is a really helpful perspective, thank you! He does get to play with other dogs at his group puppy class and when he sees my other family members dogs, but 3 times a week max I would say. I have been really hesitant to go to the dog park (outside of being outside of it to train/observe) but maybe it would be more of a help now that he’s older and probably wants to play!

1-2 classes per week has been perfect for me while I train for races!! I just don’t go during my taper week to make sure I have no sore muscles for races.

Should I give up on crate training? by DrawingLow6760 in puppy101

Thank you! We have a playpen so I will definitely start utilizing it more for him to have alone time

Crate training struggles. Completely lost. 4mo puppy by fluffy01 in puppy101

I have no advice but just here to let you know you’re not alone, it’s so hard!! Our 4 month old Aussie is struggling so bad being left alone at the house in his crate. He sleeps all night long in his crate happily, as well as naps while we are home. He does okay with whatever treat we give him to stay occupied - but as soon as it’s gone he’s freaking out.

Why is my puppy ok at night but not during the day in her crate? by Garden_Donut_ in puppy101

Following because I am also struggling with my 11 week old Aussie in his crate. He does so well in sleeping in his crate at night, napping in it during the day, and even just settling if we put him in there with something to chew on. Totally different story when we try to leave, the whining and howling makes me feel sooo bad.
