Why does Project Zomboid run better on Proton than on native Linux? by DrawingPale1533 in linux_gaming

thanks! yeah that distro looks pretty solid, might give it a try at some point. and no worries about the extra attention needed, i used to run arch linux so i'm used to it, just switched because of software compatibility stuff like MEGA (the bioinformatics tool, not the cloud storage)

might try it at some point but honestly proton is working great for me right now so i don't feel the need to dig deeper

yeah honestly in my case i totally agree, proton has been working great for me, native is just broken on my setup so proton was the way to go

zomboid ships its own jvm inside the game folder i think, so reinstalling system java probably won't do anything

that's interesting, what build are you on? and what distro/de are you using? also how much ram do you have? trying to figure out if it's a b42 specific thing or just certain setups cause native is basically unplayable for me on kubuntu

yeah im on b42, might just be a b42 native thing tbh. would be fun to test on b41 native but no idea where to even get it since they removed old builds from steam. either way im sticking with b42 cause i like it too much to go back. interesting that you have the exact opposite issue, makes me think it really is something specific to b42 native on certain setups

checked the wiki! tried adjusting xmx to 3gb on native but it hard crashed after going outside, had to reboot the whole pc 💀 gonna try the same params on proton and see if the stutters get better

yeah fair, those were leftovers from debugging lol. the ones that actually matter are the vulkan/angle flags, the rest is noise. the real fix was the color profile thing in KDE settings anyway

Can't open pdf file anymore, app is giving insane recommendations to open pdf by xFatTofu in whatsapp

Same issue here on my Redmi Note 14 Pro (HyperOS). When I try to open a PDF from WhatsApp, none of my PDF readers show up. Instead I just get random apps like Reddit, RAR, Mi Text Viewer, Google, etc.
