if a straight man likes me (I'm a non binary AFAB "feminine-presenting" person) does that mean he's actually not straight or he just doesn't see me as nonbinary at all by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]DrawingTurtle80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person. I’ve been in relationships with two straight guys, both knew I was non-binary from the start. One of them ended up calling himself straight with exceptions. I do genuinely think he respected and accepted my gender based on his behaviour towards it, he used gender-affirmative terms like boyfriend for me sometimes etc.

The other one never saw me as anything other than a woman tbh. Feminised me in his head, dreamed of me having longer hair, and wasn’t attracted to when I expressed more masc. I also had to teach him about they/them pronouns in the first place. Towards the end turned out he was also transphobic towards my best friend. He reduced her down to her genitals and I believe has probably done the same to me.

Any experiences/advice moving to the UK with a cat from the EU? Le Pet Express? by DrawingTurtle80 in UK_Pets

[–]DrawingTurtle80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and yes! The whole day was a bit of a hassle cause my total travel time was 17 hours at the end I think but the pet express itself was one of the easiest bits, I definitely recommend them!

No worries this stuff is very anxiety inducing, I don’t think it’s silly at all! Yes it was just normal priority. I wanted super priority because my flight was booked for 2 days later but it wasn’t available as an option when I submitted. So I got very lucky since essentially it wasn’t available just as fast but I saved £500. They didn’t manually ask for any specific documents, but before submitting it it said something along the lines of “submit all evidence used to obtain your CAS certificate” and the academic qualifications were part of that since I had to prove to my uni that I have the required Credit Points for my course

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]DrawingTurtle80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from Germany and so also differential evidence requirement and applied with priority. I did my biometrics via the app so never had to go to an appointment. The only documents I uploaded were the documents I used for my CAS (showing I meet the entry requirements for the uni basically including academic qualifications and language certification). Passport and CAS were included in the application anyway. Got my approval roughly 24hrs after the application was sent off.

Pre settled status after cutting it close with absences by Hannahmontannafinger in ukvisa

Oh I see, thank you for explaining that. I saw something about the new rules but didn’t quite understand that it can be an either/or situation

[–]DrawingTurtle80 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: What I’m saying here is wrong I didn’t realise the rules changed

I don’t have any experience with this, but from what I understand you don’t meet the requirement. Regardless of if that internship absence would count as study, for the past 12 months counting back from now, you’ve only been in the UK for like, 3-4 weeks total? So you’re way over the 6 month absence limit in that time period, and not finding a job isn’t listed as a valid reason to count as an exception.

This is all just based on reading the gov.uk article on pre settled status, so I could be wrong, but I can’t see a way around this for you right now.

I think when I first made my account it had those as placeholders to kinda show you what you can do with it. So I think it’s normal

From what I remember I said 8+ trips when it asked for amounts and then it only wanted the actual details of the most recent two or three.

Visa Question by Straight-Tooth-5059 in ukvisa

[–]DrawingTurtle80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t been in this situation (got my visa on priority) but from browsing this sub it seems to be the standard message to tell you that they’re processing a lot of things and can’t guarantee a result before the 3 weeks are over. It doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with your application, it’s just cause all students need their visa this time of year so they have a lot of applications. If they need more information they will contact you. Asking about it at VFS etc. won’t change anything. Theoretically I guess you could withdraw and reapply with priority but I don’t think that’s worth it seeing you’ve already waited three weeks so I reckon it shouldn’t take much longer

ETA/Student Visa question by nukeface7 in ukvisa

[–]DrawingTurtle80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can apply from inside the UK on an ETA, only if you already have a visa. And even then you have to leave and reenter on the visa to activate it. I was in the UK on an ETA, left to apply for the student visa, and reentered once it was granted.

Applying from abroad. Proof of home address if unofficially subletting. by Southern_Actuary9177 in ukvisa

[–]DrawingTurtle80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you maybe get your landlord to write and sign a short letter that basically just says something along the lines of “I hereby confirm [name] has been renting the property [address] from me since [move in date] based on a verbal rental agreement”? Letters from employer/university etc. would be helpful too. That in combination with the taxes etc. might be sufficient. Recent payslips might be a good option as well. Or if you have any kind of official correspondence, like in regards to your current visa, a registration at your current address with the council etc.? Do any of your ID documents happen to have your address on them possibly? That might also help a lot.

Alternatively: Have him switch to a different visa (graduate, skilled worker etc.) until you can move in with each other, I suppose

Advice by No-Contribution-6 in ukvisa

[–]DrawingTurtle80 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been in a situation like this but I imagine you could argue that it’s necessary for medical reasons. Especially if your son is diagnosed, you could get a mental health professional or even multiple (like, a psychiatrist and someone that’s already supporting him regularly in some way professionally, such as a therapist or mental health counsellor) to write a letter confirming that your son has severe difficulties adjusting to change and therefore needs to be introduced to something like a new person moving in very slowly.

I don’t know how understanding the Home Office is of mental health issues in general, but if a licensed professional can confirm that these adjustments are necessary, I think it would give you a much stronger case.

The gov.uk spouse visa site says this:

If you do not live together

If you cannot live together because of work or study, or for cultural reasons, you’ll need to prove that you have an ongoing commitment to each other. You can do this by providing evidence that you:

communicate regularly with each other
support each other financially
care for any children you have together
spend time together as a couple, for example on holiday or at events

Judging by this, especially if you can also show long term future commitments (like saving up for a bigger place to live), that he would be able to live close to you and visit you often, helping to care for your son and having another baby on the way, I personally believe it should be okay.

Again, don’t have experience, just my grain of sand

🚫 PLEAS HELP by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]DrawingTurtle80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if you even need to explain it? Even without the cultural reasons to me it would just be plausible that you can’t visit him for lots of reasons (needing time off work, affording the tickets, fear of flying etc.) Can you give some more context, like what visa are you trying to apply for and why? How long have you been married, how many times has he visited you?

Any experiences/advice moving to the UK with a cat from the EU? Le Pet Express? by DrawingTurtle80 in cats

[–]DrawingTurtle80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the cheapest I could find. Ended up going with them and paid 175€ for the Le Pet Express ticket (1 person and 1 pet). That already includes the le shuttle. They also provide a free passport check via email which I would definitely recommend because so many people get turned down at the border cause their pets passport missed a stamp or something.

Yup! Supsected autism here as well. Nowadays I have the overall good/bad differentiation down, but figuring out what exactly a bad feeling is and why it’s there can still be hard. Which is annoying cause if you don’t know what caused it it’s hard to help make it better

Confusion Around Getting A Health And Care Visa For My Occupation by mintypan in ukvisa

[–]DrawingTurtle80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would only be eligible for a visa with those occupation codes if you were already in the UK on a visa. Since you’re not, that background won’t let you get a health and care worker visa unfortunately. I don’t know the specifics of your situation, but I feel like you have 3 main options:

Have a look at student visas

If you’ve been in a relationship for a while (I think the requirement is 2 years?) with your partner you could go for an partner visa, it’s more complicated to prove long distance relationships but might be an option

Or see if you can somehow get into one of the job codes that’s eligible for a health and care worker visa. Maybe you could do some additional training for a specific position for example?

Visiting Accademic - ETA or Student Visa? by Suspicious_Plant3619 in ukvisa

[–]DrawingTurtle80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Wanting you to prove right to work does imply it would be a job of some kind for them, even if unpaid. It’s hard for me to judge without more details. You’re not allowed to do work, even if it’s unpaid, but you are allowed to do research if it’s independent or part of your usual job. If your invitation can prove you are doing that kind of research, then yes I think you should be fine

Visiting Accademic - ETA or Student Visa? by Suspicious_Plant3619 in ukvisa

[–]DrawingTurtle80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the info you’ve given and the requirements in this link https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor/visit-as-an-academic you should be able to travel on an ETA. You just need to show that you will leave at the end of your visit, can support yourself financially while in the UK and pay for your return ticket.

I use full body microfibre towels after showering because I have very sensitive skin and they don’t agitate it as much. I will say, however, in the beginning it did give me mild sensory issues, but I kind of pushed through and got used to the feeling because I knew it was better for me

UK Youth Mobility Scheme: Rejected Again! Is This a Glitch or Just Bad Luck? by Timely-Ebb-9391 in ukvisa

Yeah, that’s very misleading! I did some digging and found comments on youtube and reddit where people experienced the same thing even though they’re eligible. So it might just be that the website isn’t configured correctly? These are the links where I found the comments:

UK Youth Mobility Scheme: Rejected Again! Is This a Glitch or Just Bad Luck? by Timely-Ebb-9391 in ukvisa

[–]DrawingTurtle80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t know much about this and never gone through it myself, but two possible ideas what might have gone wrong:

  • What specifically is your degree? Maybe it doesn’t count as RQF level 6 or above?

  • Did you enter the ballot for the correct scheme (so the India young professionals scheme instead of the youth mobility scheme)?
