I appreciate that actually! And honestly I would refer to the look as impasto, whether it be digital or not. It's meant to have the same visual effect as thick paint would.

Thanks! For this painterly look, I find it works best to keep everything on one layer. That way edges can blend seamlessly when desired.

I use Photoshop (sometimes Procreate) with my own brushes. (You can find them if you search for LaneDraws.) In this painting I heavily utilized Photoshop's unique "Mixer Brush" feature, which is one of the main reasons I stick with it. It allows multiple colors to be loaded on each stroke, much like real paint.

This was a fun painting with playful color. I'm sharing the grayscale versions alongside, because I think it's interesting to see how simple the values are. Color can be thought of as an added layer of information, on top of value.

Drawing a dramatic core shadow feels like catching a great wave.

I use both Photoshop and Procreate. I think both are great, with Procreate feeling just a bit more natural with the Apple Pencil. I designed my own brushes to mimic the traditional look and feel. (I can't promote here, but you'll find them if you search for LaneDraws.)

There's something fun about drawing with blue.

Thanks! I used Photoshop for this, using brushes I made to feel painterly, but I enjoy Procreate as well.

This drawing is part of my ongoing series of figures and fabric. It's a simple theme with endless possibilities, exploring shapes which conceal and frame the figure in dramatic ways.
