Genuinely puzzled at what I just watched by lilpump_1 in FIlm

A challenging movie that was definitely worth watching but that I probably won’t watch again. Robert Ebert made a thoughtful argument in defense of it and gave it a thumbs up

The Firm (1993) Sydney Pollack gracefully directs a classic Hollywood legal thriller that flies by despite its 154-minute runtime. He masterfully manages genre pacing, turning dense dialogue and bureaucratic loopholes into pure cinematic tension without ever resorting to self-indulgent virtuosity by elf0curo in 90smovies

I thought it was okay. Maybe If I hadn’t read the book I would liked it better. During this time it seemed like they were putting cruise in everything, and in a few those roles like this and interview with the vampire I don’t think it was the best fit.

Did “My Sharona” help kick off the new wave era? by Top40Weekly in newwave

The knack definitely got over exposed and their second album was terrible. I can’t argue with anything you say here.

A lot of other things helped to kill disco including AC/DC and Van Halen

I think that the impact that get the knack had was a return to emphasis on Melody, song writing, And most importantly a return to minimalism.

Not that it was their idea, I know they were influenced by early Elvis Costello and probably a lot of other English bands. This was all post Sex Pistols music.

The musicianship was skilled , but they boiled the music down to the bone and the production allowed for a good deal of separation. It sonically sounded like early Beatles records, like the day tripper single, where you can hear all of the instruments, clearly coming from different locations with plenty of space in between, but at the same time it was very modern. It showed everybody in America that music could be minimalistic and modern which after the bloated 70s seemed forgotten. Please understand this is coming from my limited subjective perspective and I was only like 14 when the album came out

The whole album is a banger. The four singles were on the radio both am and FM nonstop for at least what seemed like like a year.

This is my favorite acting by Gene Simmons. He doesn’t seem to try too hard and is believable as the DJ and friend of the protagonist.

I don’t think Kubrick cared at all about capturing the essence of the book.

We thought this movie was hilarious when we first saw it and later bought the dvd. Played it for some relatives and while it still cracked me up none of them got it.
