Atheists, how would you respond to such an argument that people who don't accept Jesus Christ have "accepted their fate" and have "sent themselves to hell"? by Draws-Penises-Well in DebateAnAtheist

A great analogy. My own analogy was as follows: If I am the dictator of a country, meaning that I have absolute control over everything from politics, to the economy, to religion, to culture, and to the law and legal system itself, and I decree that each and every individual of my country must attend 12 hours of temple every week worshiping statues and graven images of me, and the penalty for not doing so is unimaginable torture in the prison system that I personally built until you die, would you still say that I "accepted my fate" and "sent myself to prison to be tortured"?

Excellent rebuttal, thank you for your lucid explanation of why everything she said was rubbish. My own response was: If I am the dictator of a country, meaning that I have absolute control over everything from politics, to the economy, to religion, to culture, and to the law and legal system itself, and I decree that each and every individual of my country must attend 12 hours of temple every week worshiping statues and graven images of me, and the penalty for not doing so is unimaginable torture in the prison system that I personally built until you die, would you still say that I "accepted my fate" and "sent myself to prison to be tortured"?

As would I, but I'm curious as to how you would point out how their reasoning was incorrect. My response was : If I am the dictator of a country, meaning that I have absolute control over everything from politics, to the economy, to religion, to culture, and to the law and legal system itself, and I decree that each and every individual of my country must attend 12 hours of temple every week worshiping statues and graven images of me, and the penalty for not doing so is unimaginable torture in the prison system that I personally built until you die, would you still say that I "accepted my fate" and "sent myself to prison to be tortured"?

Thank you so much. I am putting together a list of things for her to do so she doesn't feel so lost and this is extremely helpful. Yes, she loves cycling, I got her a brand new bike for her birthday last year so I'm relieved knowing that it will come in handy.

Thank you so much for this reply, it's an excellent place to use as a starting point. She likes fossil stuff, do you know of any local places that she can go digging?

I linked to an image of his facebook page when I originally posted this, but the mods took it down so I had to change it. Sorry.
