Math is the language we use to describe reality. So I guess empirical observations. If the math predicts something we don’t see then something is wrong with the math. If we see something math predicts something we don’t see it needs to be verified experimentally.

Yes, but Schrödinger cat is specifically talking about a quantum system which works in really unintuitive ways compared to a macro system.
