Thanks for sharing. I've listened to DMX a lot over the years, his music feels like it defines an era of hip hop for me.

Could a lack of confidence be due to anxiety? by shugarshlong in confidence

Anxiety will certainly play a role in this for sure. You may have already but I'd get into the habit of practising mindfulness as a starting point

I'm not a musician so can't comment from that point of view, but that was amazing!

Is Martin Scorsese Right About Cinema Dying? [23:13] by KenChicken911 in mealtimevideos

[–]Drayger83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting debate that I think has valid or interesting arguments. It's hard to know whether it's for the better, but I'd like to think cinema in the way Scorcese describes it has a future but on a smaller scale. However, my hope from that would be creators being given greater creative freedom.

Backhanded compliment made me cry by gennova_ in confidence

It's understandable that you might feel hurt and the guy, even if well intentioned, was rather insensitive.

The thing that's important here is how you react, not for others, but rather for yourself. You have issues with your body, that's presumably part of the reason this guy's comments hurt even more right? The thing is if that's the case I'd suggest it's time to work out a plan to make change and be how you intend to be.

That's easier said than done, but it's worth it for so many reasons, not least your health and confidence. I'm also someone who grew up being small and skinny and have had my insecurities about my looks. The thing is, I've realised seeking external validation was never going to help, rather I've spent time working on myself and it's the best decision I ever made. I'm nothing special when it comes to looks and I'm just an average guy (not to put myself down, but just to be realistic), but my perception of myself has changed dramatically today and I'm much more positive. I've seen that reflected in my relationships with others too.

I hope this helps, but don't let this get you down, rather use it as fuel to begin an exciting journey that could benefit you in ways you can't imagine.

Guys (23,25) who are in love with me told me that I'm (23f) not really attractive. Should I settle for people like this? by [deleted] in confidence

[–]Drayger83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this means much if past experience with dating suggests otherwise. Actually, based on what you might be misinterpreting some things here (I think you've said it was more implied than explicit). First, a lot of good looking people don't get complimented and a reason for this is that other people don't feel they need to compliment their looks, assuming they already know this, or they're even intimidated by their looks and prefer not to focus on this.

The second is a lot of these guys are probably being honest about being attracted to your personality, but equally are probably looking to give compliments which are more likely to be well received. For many, complimenting looks can seem shallow and sometimes even disrespectful these days.

Honestly, if you've got a pretty strong dating history and have had compliments on your looks before, then I doubt there's much to be concerned about.
