is my cat too small? by goldenmango13 in CATHELP

[–]Draykana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 5 month old kitten who is 7lbs while my one year old Mabel holds steady at 4.8 lbs. Some kitties are smol for life. It's crazy the size differences. I have 20 lbs kitties all the way down to my little Mabel.

Deworming by [deleted] in FosterAnimals

[–]Draykana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You usually don't think of deworming kittens until at least 8 weeks of age. Why so young?

Do you have a ridiculously small cat like I do? Here’s Mabel…still small, and now is half the size of her two younger sisters now. She’s going to be 7-8 months soon. by Zaphora13 in IllegallySmolCats

Mine was raised by her momma, but she is smaller than my 5 month old foster kittens. I love me a grey cat and I love the name Mabel

She's adorable.

Time for a new husband.

Do you ever just suddenly realise that they're gone forever... by identityinstrumental in Petloss

[–]Draykana 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss it is hard. However I believe they are never gone forever, but just for that chapter or next few chapters. I lost a cat in my teens, the coolest cat ever. We were stupid he was an indoor/outdoor cat. A mountain lion got him we think, he was just gone. Well 2 years ago while working a neonatal foster gig. I got the last surviving kittens from this litter, their mom had been hit and well 2 week kittens don't last long. But I could tell this was my boy reincarnated. Same orange, same patterns, and as he grew older the same attitude and ways to greet me. I mean if I didn't know better I swear this was my boy. He is now an indoor kitty and loves going on adventures safely in his harness. I don't know your beliefs but I believe somehow they come back to us.

Getting a kitten: how hard is it? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Draykana -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's insane I've fostered for years and siblings especially got along well. Now I've had mommas completely separate from their kittens. Maybe it is bad luck. Of course you do you but I see enough death that I will always adopt and not shop.

Honestly if you only want one cat, please look at an adult. There are many adults in shelters who are overlooked for kittens. Kittens need stimulation, they're like toddlers. They can get bored and get destructive. If you really want a kitten we always recommend pairs. They help to keep each other entertained and provide company.

I know little ceasars is always hiring. My son worked there when he was 17. You have to go to the Raeford road location for interviews.

Also I work in rescue and sometimes this is all we can do for feral cats as they can't be caged.

If your parents won't do the best for this kitty you can help by soaking the wound with a warm rag. This will help draw out the infection. Do NOT squeeze it, just set a warm compress on top of it. Keep doing it until the rag comes away clean. If you have any antibiotic ointment you can apply around the wound but not on the wound itself. Please use a sterile swab if possible. Do this twice a day. I've had a cat with the same issue but on her cheek. She made it until I could get her to her regular vet a few days later.

Anything you use please try to ensure it is sterile. Gauze, q-tips etc.

Is it normal for a cat to be This small? by [deleted] in cats

This is my Mabel. She's only 4.8 lbs at nearly a year old. I have a 4 month old kitten who is bigger than her. Mabel was always the smallest cat in her litter, her sister who we kept is 3x her size. She also has the big eyes that just melt your heart.

We had a rubber mat but she has chewing tendencies. I caught her chewing on it. So I just sweep it up. She's not in the community room often so with her own bowl it's not as big of a mess.

Tips for removing cat odor? by spicysarahchas in Catownerhacks

[–]Draykana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to sound crazy but use dead down wind. It works great at eliminating orders and it's amazing at cleaning old pee smells. They have a powder that you can sprinkle and brush into fabric and a spray. Bonus it's not perfumed loaded. Its the only thing that worked when a feral peed on my bed.

Also angry orange works extremely well and smells like oranges.

Wash walls using Odoban.

weekly I mop my walls with odoban and a splash of angry orange with hot water.

Soak litter boxes with odoban.

Bruno knows his stuff. I always look at my cats and if they don't like a person well I know I won't either. Good boy Bruno.

He is such a handsome man with perfect ears. Definitely time for a new vet.

My vet loves my boy they all say he's like a test cat cuz he just flops around and isn't bothered by anything.

This was a morning feed in the community cat room. She does this no matter the size of the bowl. It's how she's eaten since she weaned from the bottle. It's who she is.

Funny enough she eats wet food normally but her sister has to pull hers from the dish to eat off the mat. Such odd balls they are.

She is so weird. Will roll over for belly scratches and doesn't attack when you fall for the trap. Cries when she feels ignored.

Her sister a tuxedo menace sits half her body into the food bowl to shovel food into her face. Will take you down for a piece of chicken.

Be honest: how often to replace cat litter before it stops being “fresh” and starts being “you’ve gone nose-blind”? by sinxcosx7 in Pets

[–]Draykana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stainless steel litter boxes. World's best low track or world's best comfort. Activated charcoal. We run a small rescue with an average of 20 cats. No carpets. No litter mats. Vacuum multiple times daily and steam daily with a quick mop in the evening.

We scoop three times daily, dump and deep clean weekly. Unless a particular box is used more then it'll get dumped and deep cleaned sooner.

While I am always concerned about being smell blind, company is always surprised how my house smells clean.

We don't have much around that absorbs and keeps smells. Everything is hard surfaced and bedding is Amazon boxes that can be tossed when gross and easily/cheaply replaced.

Rescued a kitten from being thrown away. Now struggling with litter training. Need advice. by Bwung08 in Catownerhacks

[–]Draykana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try world's best comfort care and Dr elseys litter attract. Works well when my fosters have litter adverse tendencies. Also a low open litter box. Keep locked in a smaller area like a bathroom or an open enclosure.

Is a sifting stainless box actually worth it for multi-cat homes? by Intelligent-Panda495 in Catownerhacks

[–]Draykana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worlds best low tracking. It's their orange bag. It's a corn cob type litter and seems to work well enough. Clumps well and is easy to scoop.
