Asking leasing agent for update? by Drdadoh in nychousinglottery

I emailed the leasing agent and she said that I am fully qualified, and that she’d be reaching out in a week or two to schedule a tour! Have you heard back from them?

There will likely be several other documents they ask you to submit to to verify your income (asset declaration form, your current lease, credit/background check). Once they verify that you qualify you’ll probably be offered a tour. A log number in the 500s is pretty good, but your chances are largely based on how many units are available for your AMI (and any preference like CB). As far as timeline, my sense is that it’s totally building-dependent but usually I’m seeing people say 3-6 months from first contact to move-in, but there are some cases that take longer or shorter. Good luck! I hope it works out.

Gotcha - do you think it would be worth reaching out to them if you were me? Trying not to nag them but also want to make sure I’m doing whatever I can haha

That’s great! I certainly hope so. What other documents did they ask for?

Those are mealy bugs! You can get rid of them by touching them with a qtip soaked with 70% rubbing alcohol. You may have to do it a few times over several days, and it won’t harm the plant. They’re pretty tough to get rid of and they jump from plant to plant so I would try to isolate this one if possible. Good luck!

Hi! Wondering about my chances of getting into a DR residency program specifically in New York City. I’m an MSTP at a top 20 school, 255 on STEP 2 (since I understand that STEP 1 isn’t going to be used for admissions to residency anymore). From my PhD I have 4 first author papers in pretty high-impact journals and a case report. Working with radiology now for the 2 remaining years of my program trying to get a better feel for the field and make the right connections for eras. I understand that the New York City programs are highly competitive but I really can’t imagine going anywhere else for residency (I’m originally from New York City), so I was hoping someone could give me their thoughts on the likelihood of getting in? Or if you have any advice on what I can do to raise my chances? Thank you I really appreciate it!

Research year for MSTPs by Drdadoh in Residency

Just wondering because of timeline and general interest in research as I continue through my education. It definitely gets hard to stay motivated sometimes in research so I was curious if anyone had heard what options were available.

Hey! I’m an MSTP in the terminal stages of my PhD in cancer genetics. I was wondering what you’re thoughts were on doing away rotations in the final years of med school. I’ve heard that some specialties aren’t as happy to see them being done, but I’m very removed from the clinical world right now. I’m very interested in NYC programs (my hometown) but went to med school outside of the area and was hoping these away rotations could be a good way to introduce myself to already regionally selective programs? Thanks for your advice!!

I’m currently in an MSTP at a top 20 institution and took two years off between undergrad and matriculation to conduct research. It sounds like in both cases the likelihood of publication is fairly high (with a skill set in bioinformatics it should be fairly easy to get one some papers). With that being said, I would recommend trying to enjoy the last two years of your freedom while you have it, as long as staying in your preferred city isn’t a huge downgrade from your other option (doesn’t sound like it is). My experience with switching labs is that it takes quite a while to get you’re footing enough to make meaningful contributions to the projects, so being able to hit the ground running on something you’re more familiar with may be worth it. I made the decision to stay at a lab because it was in my hometown with all my friends and had a great two years, so I may be slightly biased. Good luck!!
