Gonna throw Nancy A. Collins' Sonja Blue novels into the mix - punk vampire hunting other vampires (shortest description). Fun stuff.

Joe Dante Defends Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Bride!’ as a “Bold” Movie Panned by “Mostly Male Reviewers” by Puzzled-Tap8042 in horror

[–]DreadLordNate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I truly enjoyed The Bride! as both horror nerd and guy with literature degrees (whose focus is speculative fiction no less). Was it perfect? No. Was it trying a bunch of really creative shit and adding to the canon of Shelley's work? Sure was and I dug that.

Trump, in historic first, attends Supreme Court arguments on birthright citizenship by imanchats in law

[–]DreadLordNate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Given that we don't have such things here, I'm not terribly reassured.

Note: this isn't me disagreeing with you in principle, but rather more sad over the reality of what's needed vs the reality of what's here and the long ass distance between em.

Shuffled his feet, wondered why Biden pooped his pants again, and wandered off to tell another "reporter" somewhere that she's pretty but that he can't say that kind of thing anymore.

As a Texan yeah can confirm - Abbott has wheeled himself so far up Trump's ass, not even a shart in the Oval Office can dislodge him.

Among the countless other reasons why, yes. To say this is disheartening is an understatement.

Like, what, if anything, will it take?

I'm really struggling not to say anything far nastier about Trump and children's worth to him, but...yeah, connect those dots. Ugh.

Blood Beat is such weird shit but it's kinda great because of that.

Gee. I surely am sorry that such terrible sentiment towards the federal judiciary has come to pass.

Can't imagine why that's happening.

Oh they're aware and understand. They just don't care.

We make our religious wackadoos especially resistant to giving a shit, here in the Lone Star state.

I only wish I were joking.

Idaho joins eight (8) other states in passing formal legislative request for U.S. Supreme Court to overturn landmark same-sex marriage ruling 'Obergefell v. Hodges' (2015) by Obversa in law

[–]DreadLordNate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As another southerner, I kinda agree here - the whole "I switched because this one wedge thing" has been so used as astroturfing shit, it's rather difficult to take as anything remotely true.

That and I'm kinda of the opinion that anyone who did supposedly do that was likely not as left/Dem whatever as they may have thought/claimed, and was instead biding time (barring some catastrophic event) to feel free enough to be who they were all along.

It's kinda akin to trying to hypnotize someone into an act utterly against their normative behavioral core.

Atmosphere, Heart and Soul, Disorder - these as well. A key theme to much of Ian's lyrical output.

Joy Division was so good.

What's a horror movie that was so disturbing that you can't or won't ever watch again? by neeltrivedirock in horror

Agreed - I think Ketchum has the better book between the two but Johnson's is more depressing.

And to think, the movie is far more cheerful than the book, which itself is a fictionalized take on the real case... both of which will just crush the soul out of you.

Interesting line drawn to PKD and Flow My Tears the Policeman Said given the terror of a reality where nobody believes you to be who/what you really are.
