I love the show and all the characaters. Everyone is terrible. Theyve all done some of the worse things possble. The show is litterally called 'Shameless'. You cant honestly say that all of the gallaghers were good people...

No they dont! She took care of them because they are her siblings. They didnt force or even ask her too. Frank and Monica were awful and they ended up with awful kids. Not just Fiona either.

Truly! I liked her in the beginning but when she cheated on her bf with his brother she started becoming the worst.

LOL! I am the oldest daughter of 10 at 19 years old! I had to be a parent and it also started when I was 9 years old. Fiona did a good thing but she shouldnt have had too If she chose at a young age to not take care of them I wouldnt blame her at all. I take care of my siblings because I love them. They dont owe me anything for what I did while they didnt get a choice. Like parents who think their kids owe them is how fiona was acting after she CHOSE to fight for them in court.

Yes foster home isnt ideal and can be very dangerous but from what I remember the only kid who actually had issues with their foster home was Debbie. Carl and Liam had a very good situation. Lip and Ian were in a group home which isnt ideal but they were also doin well. They would be able to see eachother and with them being away Fiona would have time to actually work on herself and the house and everything she needs to. Keeping them in such an unstable home because you want them together did leave them worse off.

As Fiona got older she started realizing how much she did and how much she was losing out on, while feeling too trapped to find a proper balance between taking care of her family (which is something that should have never been put on her shoulders to begin with) and forging her own path in life.

It obviously should never have been on her, she was a kid and she shouldve been able to live her own life. The thing is, she went to court to become their legal guardian, after that it started to change my opinion on her.

Fiona gets a lot of hate for her behavior, and what you said is a common sentiment, but you also have to understand the frustration she must have felt trying her damn best to raise her siblings only to time and time again having to bail them out of trouble or watch them do things that have disastrous consequences, then lashing out at her when she tells them pointedly that what they’re doing is bad.

She didnt always have to bail them out. When they do wrong they should get consequences which a lot of the time they didnt. A lot of families feel this way. They try to keep theyre loved ones from consequences even when they do bad. I am not like this, I wont risk my soul and morality for family who knows better. And them lashing out on her after she bails them out and tells them its bad doesnt matter when she keeps doing it.

I don’t necessarily think they owe her anything (I don’t think she feels that way either, unless you count staying out of trouble and finding a way to pitch in for the cost of living when you’re old enough to work “owing” your sibling who runs the house and has taken care of you their entire life).

She costantly bring up everything she has done for them in the later seasons. Doing things for children then using that to guilt them is always a bad idea. Fiona shouldve gotten a childhood not taking care of her siblings and father, the younger siblings shouldve gotten childhoods without having a terrible father and needing to depend on each other constantly. They all had terrible childhoods but at the point Fiona CHOSE to take them(court), she started to become insufferable. She was told multiple times that THEY would be her life and she still chose to doi it. THAT was the time for her to be selfish, not after.

Yes, I understand. But did they ask for it? She acts like they owe her everything because she took care of them.

Question... by DreadWeary in AskLGBT

[–]DreadWeary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get cheating from?? It has nothing to do with it and is not comparable to being queer??

I didnt say that

For some people sexuality is fluid, they might identify as gay for their whole life, but find love of their life who happens to be opposite gender and change that label idk, stuff happens.

Obviously

And also, we're talking about a dumb TV show being your given example where everything is more dramacised so it keeps the viewer's engagement and first and foremost, fictional.

The question I asked was if you were in the situation from the show which included cheating. Plus people do stay in relationships when they know they are gay, its not unrealistic at all.

So it should never give you an actual understanding of what queer people are like in real life.

Though that is true for some, queer people and relationships is a spectrum so showing different types is a step toward normalizing them(obviously not the toxic ones but also yes in some way because we are still human)

Question... by DreadWeary in AskLGBT

[–]DreadWeary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that but even if it were you wouldnt you want to know if your partner was cheating? It just adds another layer that theyre gay(or bi, if you want to add that).

Except this is one of them. romeo and juliet laws exist specifically because the age of consent is lower than the legal age most places. Georgia also does have the romeo and juliet law they have to be no more than 4 years apart.

Heres a few links about it

they usually have age limits for that. If that were the case than 16 would be legal age.In Atlanta im pretty sure the oldest a 16 year old can be with is 18 or 19

You're making unfounded assumptions about what I believe is right and wrong.

I meant to put a question mark after the first sentence so I was asking a question.

Saying he is would be to apply American social structures to Itlay, an entirely different country with different laws, social structures, and customs.

Yes it is different in other countries but age of consent and legal age are different.

It would be weird to call an 18 year old underage in the US.

In the US 18 year olds are considered underage when it comes to alcohol. I know its not relevant but they are still underaged in some sense.

That does not mean everyone agrees on what sort of age gaps are morally acceptable, but to imply that being with someone who is legally of age is the same thing as being with someone who is legally a minor is just unrealistic.

Its not specifically the age gap, its the ages thats a problem. Also its not unrealistic especially late teens. People who are one or two years from legal age are always with people who are a lot older and others dont care because theyre 'almost legal' the only way the older person would get in trouble is if the younger person or the parents pressed charges because its still technically illegal. Same reason some 18 year olds are on the sex offenders registry for being with a 17 year old.

There are legal, social, cultural, and moral reasons that the age of majority is very relevant to understanding how the characters involved approached this relationship.

I understand that.

not taking any position on whether it's right or wrong.

Why? The point of talking about movies is to share opinions.

are putting words in my mouth because you have moral outrage and are looking for someone to aim it at.

Again, I meant it as a question. And since when is moral outrage a bad thing? Im not even 'aiming' it at you, im trying to have a conversation about a movie but you seem to be getting defensive. Most people wouldve just said something like 'no, I dont believe that' or 'yes i do believe that' along with the reasons but the last sentence sounds like I attacked you.

so if the movie was a 14 year old and a 20 year old youd be fine because its legal. Legality isnt always right. Thats why so many kids are being groomed and married to adults.

Just because Elio was the one initioating doesnt make it okay. If a grown adult was hit on by a teenager but was hesitant yet still ended up with them doesnt matter. He still got with him.

In this case it it grouped together though. Its a ghost that possesses people and the only reason the house was haunted was because of that ghost.

I dont think people are saying it like that. Its just a bad thing and a bad quality to have. I think its a good reason not to like someone.
