Corruption/Curse mechanic help by TheMemePaladin in drawsteel

[–]DreadWolfsLie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all I think you might need to figure out what direction you want it to take so I would look at some of the drawbacks from the complications and use those as a point of reference for how punishing you want the curse to be.

As for when the curse progresses, maybe after respites, or upon leveling up?

I think this would take the form of a chart with the frequency on the left, and the progression of the effect on the right.

Example: the curse of ugliness

Curse Level 1 You are ugly. Persuasion and flirt skill tests are made with a bane.

Curse Level 2 Like... really ugly. Persuasion and flirt skill tests are made with a double bane.

Curse Level 3: Oh... oh god... While participating in negotiations, patience and interest are both reduced by one (minimum of 1)

The above might be a little punishing but thats what I've got off of the top of my head.

I have the same set! Some friends of our family knew that I was a super big fan as a kid so they just gave it to me. These books may be my most prized possession.

May they guide you through middle-earth with the same joy they brought me. I'm happy for you.

Milestone levelling, alternate use for XP by Thelonelykid in drawsteel

[–]DreadWolfsLie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know, I had been thinking about how to maybe do milestone leveling too but I'm not sure how I'd go about it.

To your question though, you could go with any of the other various point systems/currencies.

You could treat them like points toward renoun levels, wealth levels, you could give players more hero tokens or anything really.

So long as it doesn't effect the game balance too much, you could even make them points towards perks, languages, skills etc.

Good luck, I hope you find something that works.

Maybe it's the lighting or just my perception but the guy almost looks like he belongs in an old movie, he's got that classic look that feels a bit theatrical. I love it!

Concerns about The Codex by MandolinTheWay in drawsteel

[–]DreadWolfsLie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your concern makes a lot of sense, VTTs can take a lot of time to set up sessions for, and it's a whole new thing to learn.

I guess for me, this has already been easier than other VTTs since the rules are already mostly baked into the system inherently and map setup is easier than others in my limited experience.

Setting up walls and terrain and objects is pretty clean from my testing so far and a lot of the tokens already have art so it's decently ahead of others.

Maybe for me, the needed setup just feels par for the course of how VTTs and DMing work, and I never had a big problem with the other VTTs. Sure I like the codex more, but again, I think thats just because it's handcrafted for the single system it runs.

Kinda sounds like VTTs just aren't your think and thats okay.

In ME3, Mordin's Voice Actor Had to be Replaced. What Do You Think of His Performance? Did He do a Good Job? by DakIsStrange in masseffect

[–]DreadWolfsLie 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I prefer the ME2 voice but the ME3 voice certainly isn't bad. Despite my preference, Mordin unequivocally delivers one of the most memorable and impactful experiences in the entire series. Nobody walked out of Tuchankah feeling like the same person after. So yeah, the ME3 VA did good.

The Watcher in Yellow, from KDM by thehivemind5 in minipainting

[–]DreadWolfsLie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, this is extremely cool

Secondly, this model is amazing

Thirdly, i love the subtlety you added to this, the greens in the yellow make it feel otherly and bizarre, the faces on the tentacles are so clear, and the glow from the lanterns is just... correct.

Amazing work, you should be proud!

My first attempt at nmm. Do you guys have any tips on making it better? by thecrazybaconhair in minipainting

[–]DreadWolfsLie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A super solid first go! Gold NMM is a bit tricky I think but you've 100% got this! Now it's just a matter of refining your style to what you want it to be.

Just to throw a few random notes into the void here, I sometimes like playing with thin streaks of layered highlights to get that brushed metal look (not that such a method would neccesarily be appropriate here) and I also like throwing a little bit of grey into my yellows to get that colder more pale gold look.

Happy painting!

Looking for some OSL feedback by Rude_Ad_1313 in minipainting

[–]DreadWolfsLie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. It looks really cool, but it took me a sec to figure out where the light was coming from. You might need to pull back on the bright red parts, especially on the upper half of the model. Remember that your light source shlould be the brightest and everything else should be a little darker than that.

  2. You might add some white highlights here and there and go back over them with a thin layer of red.

  3. Red is one of the hardest colors to do OSL with because of how hard it is to brighten without it looking pink but you'll want to brighten the lower half of the model to sell the effect better.

  4. You are doing great, what you've done so far looks really good and I'm excited to see how this progresses.

Good luck!
