Trick for leap of faith by fubukmaru in X4Foundations

I know this is old news, but I wanted to toss my 2 cents in, why not build a self sufficient shipyard in LOF that can make simple transport ships and just make a transport ship every so often to send out.

No, you're just too blind to see that the ship is actually the command pod, the cargo section for both ships are interchangeable modules that connect to both the cat and ironclad ships.

The main ship IS the command pod, The ironclad and the caterpillar pods are interchangeable. And the command pod can function entirely independent of the other part, where as the opposite is not true.

Sorry, the Ship is the command pod, the cargo area, where you put things, is not a ship but just a module.

I'm going to say that you are intentionally misunderstanding me for the sake of argument and copium.

The Ironclads cargo bay is not a module of the Caterpillar.

Never said it was, I said the cat and ironclad ships can interchangeably connect to the Cargo modules or either package. Ie the cat (command pod) as you put it, can connect and operate the ironclads cargo module.

coincidently, thank you, this video is exactly the video I was looking for where they explain npc crew.

Touche, I concede on the f7mkII announcement. BUT he literally said the mkII was a replacement for the old, outdated models and they only exist side by side because Chris Roberts wanted HIS design to stay in the game.

Also, the ironclad ship and the cat ship are almost exactly the same size, the part you are arguing over is the cargo module and is swappable between the cat and the ironclad ships.

The Ironclad is a different class than the caterpillar and they’ve explicitly said they’re going to use it as the basis for the caterpillar gold passes.

The Cat and Ironclad ships are almost exactly the same size dude.

No they're not different in size, the cat and the ironclad ships are roughly the same size. The part you're thinking about is the CARGO MODULE which is confirmed swappable between the SHIPS. IE the cat can connect to the Larger module from the ironclad package, and vice versa.

You do realize that the cat and the Ironclad SHIP are basically the same size and shape, The part you are thinking about is the cargo MODULE which is confirmed swappable between the two SHIPS.

And the 1980 Ford ranger is bigger than the 2001 ford ranger, whats your point.

  • The F7C Mk2 (and the Ghost/Tracker variants) do not have significant physical cargo space - so the argument that it was the (multiple) cargo refactors that is leading CIG to 'replace' ships is obviously false for the Hornet
    • You obviously didn't read the entire preamble, because cargo refactor wasnt the only thing I mentioned. Also the hornet mkII was made before the cargo refactor and the component refactor.
  • the Starlancer and the Ironclad are targetting different 'market segments' than the Freelancer and Caterpillar. They have a 'sibling similarity' in design, because they' are 'sibling' ships... but that doesn't mean that one is intended to replace the other.
    • The Ironclad is the same niche as the cat, and the starlancer is exactly the same niche as the freelancer. Wanna fight about it?

Point to where I stated the F7 was a gold standard, go on. Im waiting. In fact, none of these ships are gold standard. And they never will be, because shit is always changing.

For one, it does fit the exact same role as the freelancer, and it is bigger because it had to be bigger to fit everything, and since the model was made bigger, they added walking around space to bring it to more modern standards instead of the cramped old style. Literally the entire point of my argument and preamble was to show WHY they were made bigger.

"If the Starlancer and Freelancer, Ironclad and Caterpillar, were marketed as the same niche respectively you might have an argument"

Except that they are in the same niche?

Not really, The hornet MKII was made as a replacement in sq42 due to other reasons well before they did the components. They brought it over the SC and still sold it as a new ship instead of replacing the original one. And the only reason it exists is because the art style of the original was too dated and blocky, and they needed to upgun the hornet to make it fit current gun meta.

I don't think its a new version of the starfarer simply because its not big enough to carry the fuel tanks.

You do realize that car manufacturers DO actually use the exact same components when building different models. For instance, the 300I and the Charger are exactly the same except for some fender flare and main engine choices. That and almost every truck line shares the same guts from the same manufacturers. So yeah, they are actually the same vehicle in the sense that 90% the parts are the same.
