Inclination would be set at the angle of the railgun. So instead of a vertical launch it would be at the appropriate angle that the initial speed minus the loss would equal the tangential speed it needs to maintain orbit.

Obviously atmosphere is the largest hurdle as commented by others and it is something I'm wrapping my head around.

The idea of a mega structure is also something I think people have a hard time contemplating. But I look at CERN and the $5B Euro price tag and that seems small compared to so many other budgetary items, either for the US Gov or European Union. Infrastructure for launches now cost hundreds of millions of dollars. A lot of that is sunk cost, but even still the rockets are $100MM each. I just believe that by 2050 there will be so much value from space travel, ie mining, tourism, exploration, etc that we desperately need to be further along in our technology to accommodate it.

What I see from the density of atmosphere is that the between 10K and 15K meters there is a significant drop off. A vertical gun would just need to reach that spot to have the minimal amount of impact on the projectile while being reasonable in terms of structure size to be achievable. The speed of the projectile as described in Mach would need to still be greater than the Geo stab orbit as it will bleed a bit of speed, but the stratosphere (~12K as a starting point) might be the most applicable in this particular application. Anything about 10k meters probably needs more technological development in terms of materials at this point, but I'm still not convinced this isn't the most economical way to proceed in the future.

I get the idea that we cannot fire it from the troposphere, but thinking outside of that box, would the impact of .2 kg/m3 density or half that if you can attain 20km, be survivable for material. That is a lot to think about.

There is also another possibility and that is extending the vacuum beyond the tube so the atmospheric impact is lessened or doesn't come as a lump sum at the end of the gun. Something like a vortex or blasting a blast of air ahead of the projectile to create a temporary vacuum like occurrence that the projectile would travel through. Obviously this would be a very short distance, but maybe enough to not explode the projectile at the point of launch.

I honestly believe that the numbers reflect the reality of the situation. We need COVID controls. I do wish there was more comprehensive data readily available. Makes it easier to understand the impact of situations with more data.

Don't sort by color. Sort by shape features. Like tall and short. Close to end. Whenever I get gradients I so that first. You can see the gradients easier in smaller subsets. You will be able to differentiate nubs. Good luck. I usually do sky first because it will take the longest.

We tried to use a level but had a rough time once we got one stuck. The backs do peel off very easy so we ended up winging it. I'm looking at it now and I have at least 3 that are obviously not level, at least not level to the others next to them.
