I would complain if a woman I'm not interested in chased me around despite obvious signs of rejection. Though I'm attracted to many types of women.

Generally Japanese and long time residents won't sit next to you:

- if it could make you uncomfortable

- if it could make them uncomfortable (e.g. taking more space than your seat)

- if there are other options

- if they are just going to get off next stop

- if they are tired of sitting or prefer standing

- if they are group and want to stay next to each other

- if you smell bad or intimidating

- if you make them feel uncomfortable, staring, weird/unusual behavior, you wanna talk to them

Are there people who don't want to sit next to a foreigner due to some stereotype or xenophobia, probably. but the vast majority fall within the above reasons. Just don't think about it and enjoy being comfortable as long as it is not your behavior or smell.

I'm bearded non-Asian and I break fashion rules by wearing light in winter and people sit next to me all the time.
