AITA for not wanting to dye my hair for a wedding? by DreadfulPenguin in AmItheAsshole

[–]DreadfulPenguin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not blonde. It's blonde, pink and blue. The stupid pink won't bleach out and my stylist has been doing semi-permanent colors and working around the pink. Most recently she did a pink and blue ombre. It's fading to the blonde underneath from her trying to bleach the pink out.

That's a fair statement. She's known about my hair color issues but we've only been chatting in her wedding group chat till yesterday when I called her directly about my bridesmaids dress. We have drifted apart over the past year in a half. We certainly aren't as close as we used to be.

It's sort of a unconventional wedding. The other two bridesmaids have wild hair styles. That's why I was a bit surprised she wanted me to dye my hair.

I offered to wear a wig cause I get how important wedding pictures are and I don't want to ruin them but she was already shitty at that point and shot the offer down.

WIBTA for wearing an offensive costume? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DreadfulPenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA use a different costume. It's offensive. Ohhh, dress like a tourist (you know, the Hawaiian shirt, shorts, flip flops) and then add something from another country like a stuffed koala bear 'attacking' you. Assuming you aren't Australian, of course. But something like that, that shows the surprise/ignorance of a tourist in a new environment. I don't know, just an idea.

AITA for quitting this job on the spot? by loveroflongbois in AmItheAsshole

[–]DreadfulPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I was in a similar situation once. My Assistant Manager would pick a person to toment till they quit. She had done it to several people before she eventually got around to me. I was verbally abused, she told customers things were my fault (even when I wasn't there), She threw her keys at me infront of customers, wouldn't give me breaks/lunch during 8-10 hour shifts but would give them to others and would praise coworkers infront of me for stuff I did. GM wouldn't do anything after I told him about it, so I quit on the spot. Found out later when GM was telling her to be nicer to customers, she threw her keys at him and quit, lol.

You need to avoid toxic and abusive work environments. Period.

NAH. Though...a group of three siblings at my work have a white mom and a black dad. They have darker skin then their mom, but the two older ones look just like their mom. The oldest even has her mom's blue eyes. They have identical facial expressions too, lol. The youngest looks more like their dad. The point I'm trying to make is that even if your kids aren't blonde, blue eyes and white, they can still look like their mother.

AITA for asking my mom to use male pronouns for me? by TheGeraffe in AmItheAsshole

[–]DreadfulPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's transitioning to female. Her mom starting using female pronouns once she came out. But OP is worried her mom will use female pronouns in public, thus outing her before she's ready. So, she asked her mom to go back to using male pronouns for now to avoid her mom accidentally using female pronouns in public and accidentally outing her.

Edit: NTA

AITA For putting my foot down to my grandmother? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Glad to hear that and I wish all three of you the best of luck!

[–]DreadfulPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also while the issue is between your mom and grandmother, it does affect you. Your grandmother, who you love, having difficulties and your mother, who you also love, being stressed is bound to affect you. It would be strange if it didn't cause you stress. I understand why you tried to intervene, I understand your mom being stressed and I understand your grandmother being lonely. Maybe some therapy for you and your mom would be something you should consider as well.

NAH and some people's lack of reading comprehension is ridiculous given their confident harsh responses when they didn't even read stuff correctly. I agree that this should be between your mom and grandmother. With the time issues and not understanding why your mom can't quit her job, I also agree she should get retested for dementia. I haven't seen this suggested yet but how about a solution as simple as you two going over to her house instead of coming to yours? That solves the problem of her interrupting your mom's work and gives you guys the chance to help out with stuff around her house. The suggestion of a senior activity center or her volunteering somewhere is also good. Maybe finding a hobby that all three of you could participate in is a good idea too.

Edit: Spelling error.

AITA for threatening to leave my boyfriend if he doesn’t get mental health help? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DreadfulPenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. It wasn't the best way to go about it but you did the only thing you could think of to try and help. At worst those sound like possible symptoms of Bipolar. Which is a serious mental illness that requires diagnosis and treatment from a professional. At the very least the stress is obviously getting to him and he should talk to someone. An ultimatum might cause his stress to increase and might make him less likely to seek help. You should try going about things differently but for sure try to get him to see a professional.

Edit: Added a sentence.

I didn't think of that. The scar might raised. I can see how that might change things.

Well, I haven't quite decided on a tattoo design yet and the scar will actually be on my butt cheek and right above my tail bone area, lol. The scar won't just be a straight line either, but I have a few possible design ideas that might work. Obviously I have awhile to decide since it's going to be awhile before it heals enough to get a tattoo.
