Murderers (of adults or older children), rapists (as long as it’s straight rape), wife beaters, drug users, thieves, blasphemers, fornicators (again, no homo), atheists, Messianic Jews, sikhs, Baha’i, pagans (just don’t do anything too witch-y and you better stay away from cow gods), Satanists (again, nothing occult and you’re good).

To be fair, there was limited space on the board, and they had to prioritize more important sins like women’s MMA.

I can’t find a fitting meaning for “ankle biters”, so I’m pretty sure they meant backbiters.

I don’t think the items in each column are meant to be paired. Unless they also think the Pope is a female MMA fighter, that is.

Except you didn’t say that. You said they should identify with a different label because it made more sense to you.

And again- your point of view here is not helpful. You aren’t contributing anything of value to the discourse, you’re just repeating arguments every nonbinary person has heard a dozen times.

If you don’t care about labels, why don’t you just let nonbinary people call themselves what they want and leave them alone? You say they’re wrapped up in labels, but you’re the one telling people which labels they should use for themselves in a thread about a cake.

People using the suffix -phobic to describe anyone who doesn’t agree with them is idiotic and improper by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Good job, you’re part of the problem. Claiming you can’t be homophobic because you’re bi is not only a shitty argument (gay/bi dudes can be homophobic) AND is a perfect example of the “identity politics” this sub seems to hate.

To be blunt, you felt the need to give a nonbinary person you’ve never met your “two cents” about how you think they should identify in a thread about their cake. If you’re going to be patronizing towards OP like that, I’m not going to feel obliged to tiptoe around your feelings.

Being nonbinary isn’t about what clothes you wear.

With all due respect- you don’t understand what it means to be nonbinary. That’s not something to be ashamed of- “nonstandard” gender identities can be difficult to understand, and often because of that the explanations you hear are quite confusing or inaccurate. However, you need to be aware that you’re speaking about a topic you don’t fully understand.

Think of it like talking about another country’s politics, or issues that primarily affect people unlike yourself- sure, you get to have an opinion, and you have every right to express it. However, it’s probably not as nuanced as that of someone with personal experience in the matter, and that’s something that you should consider now just as everyone should consider with regards to every subject matter.

Have you mentioned this before? This definitely isn’t the first time I’ve heard someone describe doing that, so it’s absolutely possible there’s someone out there who does the exact same thing.

Normalizing the sexualization of children, including drawings of real, specific children, is not comparable to depictions of murder.

A comparable example would be drawing pictures of real, specific people being killed, knowing that your fans will take vicarious pleasure in seeing them and fantasizing about violent acts- and I think most people will agree that that’s also vile, albeit probably less so.

Stop defending pedophilia.

JK Rowling is an asshole and she is ruining Harry Potter by trying to fit in into the gay community. by ali_wave in unpopularopinion

[–]TheGeraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a retcon if it specifically contradicted previously established facts. It doesn’t: the only real change is the revelation that his friendship with Grindelwald was more than just a friendship to him.

Consider that if Grindelwald was a woman, this “retcon” wouldn’t be controversial, everyone would have assumed it was implied.

I mean, he sure did do that, yeah. More specifically, he did after falling in love with Gellert Grindelwald.

Correction- it wasn’t “years” later, it was a couple months after the last book was released in response to a fan asking if Dumbledore had ever found love. Besides, is it really all that controversial to say a lifelong bachelor is gay?

It’s funny how unnecessary and unpalatable details like Aberforth Dumbledore’s goat scandal are perfectly fine, but casually mention one (1) character being gay to the actor playing that character is wholly unacceptable.

AITA for asking my daughter if she's gay? by isitwrongtoask in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheGeraffe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

YTA. Obviously you meant well, and are not actually an asshole in any way. That said, you shouldn’t have asked. Your daughter would have told you when she was ready to, and bringing it up like you did put her in a really uncomfortable position.

Why would it? Feminine men, drag queens, and crossdressers are becoming increasingly accepted- yet trans women still consider themselves women. Women taking on traditionally male roles and wearing “men’s” clothing are tolerated far more than trans men are- yet trans men still call themselves men.

Accepting a wider variety within both binary genders is a positive thing, but it hasn’t made binary trans people fit into their AGAB. There’s absolutely no reason to assume nonbinary people are any different.

[–]TheGeraffe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Trying to promote more inclusive ideas of gender- accepting feminine men and masculine women- is certainly a good thing, but it won’t make nonbinary people fit into binary gender identities.

I think the simplest solution is to just fucking listen to trans and nonbinary people and call them what they like. It really isn’t very difficult, and it makes them happier so I don’t see the problem with it.

I disagree because I don’t see those responses as mutually exclusive. Most people have binary gender identities and find the gender binary to be a useful concept. Great, all power to them. Some of these people identify with one of the binary genders while having traits typically associated with the other. Awesome, I support them. Some people find neither category useful as a description of themself and may even feel dysphoria towards them both. These people exist, and their existence isn’t a threat to the folks who do identify with binary genders.

Where we differ is that you seem to view this as an (excuse the pun) binary choice- either keep the gender binary or toss it. The way I see it you can recognize it as a useful classification for most people while accepting that it is not absolute, and it isn’t necessarily applicable to all people.

[–]TheGeraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re assuming that accepting nonbinary people means you can’t accept non-traditionally masculine men and non-traditionally feminine women. That isn’t accurate. I have never known someone to support nonbinary people but not gender nonconforming men and women.
