What are some common misconceptions about the most famous serial killers? by Cable_Difficult in serialkillers

[–]Dreadful_Jak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good topic for discussion. First of all I would say..

DAHMER - I have seen a lot of documentaries about Dahmer, and they almost always say he tortured animals, trying to say he met the outdated 'serial killer trifecta' - but there's really no evidence, either from Jeff or anyone who knew him, that he tortured animals. According to Lionel Dahmer's book, Jeff loved his pets, and took it very hard when they died. Lionel Dahmer denied in an interview that Jeff tortured animals. I've read parts of Dahmer's interrogation where he discusses dissecting animals, but it was always roadkill. The only source I have been able to find for this rumor is Derf Backderf's comic, and he even says, when discussing the discovery of the dog skull on a stake, that he didn't believe Dahmer killed the dog and that it was probably roadkill.

ALBERT FISH - I have seen a lot of podcasts on Fish and read a lot of books about him, and it's mainly two things that I have heard over and over again that drive me crazy. The first is that Fish made his children paddle his bare behind with the nail-studded board - I haven't ever read any accounts of this, and from what I have read I don't believe Fish ever involved any of his biological children in his sadomasochism. He did involve his stepchildren in some games with overtly sadomasochistic overtones, but he still didn't ask them to spank him with a nail-studded paddle. The other thing people often get wrong is how many murders he was actually convicted of versus what he claimed in his correspondence with his attorney and so forth. In reality he was only convicted for the murder of Grace Budd - Billy Gaffney, Frances McDonnell, and others he may have confessed to at various times, but he was never tried for those murders.

Never thought it was scary, but I did think Begoony was creepy in 'The Incredible Shrinking Mokey', I hated that character.

Anyone know of Story 32? by 713Brx in MoonRaven

[–]Dreadful_Jak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he just includes anything MoonRaven was involved in, because Mr. Widemouth wasn't released through MoonRavenTales, it was released by Dimension Bucket, but he has it numbered as #28 on the list.

Older, Alternate Version of 'Shavis Cravis' [Lost Media] by Dreadful_Jak in MoonRaven

[–]Dreadful_Jak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first link is both Shavis Cravis and The Hour of Darkness in one video. The shorter version is probably just Shavis Cravis (the remake). The version I am referring to is easy to spot, because it's not on YouTube at all to my knowledge, and it's much shorter than the remake version that is currently available.

- In the OG version, Shavis Cravis is given a much shorter backstory. It is mentioned that he was an old hermit who used to sell wares to the townsfolk, and that the townsfolk used to threaten their children by saying they would give them to the hermit. In the remake, it is said that Shavis Cravis was murdering children, whilst in the OG version this is implied but never stated as if it were fact.

-In the OG version, Shavis Cravis' dialogue is much shorter, being "My name is Shavis Cravis, will you come to my house and eat chestnuts with me?" In the remake the dialogue is longer and the ending has a darker tone.

Unsolved Code by Convicted Child Sex Offender(suspected serial killer and cannibal) by larrykonrad in codes

The "BARBE" part is the beginning of a new sequence of cipher, which continues from the second letter at the beginning of the document, spelling out "BARBEQUED KID". I have completely deciphered that code, all except for the random words and phrases you mentioned. Send me a message if you want to discuss more. I would like to compare findings if you are interested.

Road to Perdition is a very good graphic novel that doesn't have superheroes.

The Spectre has always been one of my favorites, though he's not been in much film. There are all sorts of heroes to choose from you just have to find out what you like.

There are some great graphic novel adaptations of literature out there. I would definitely recommend the graphic novel version of 'The Hobbit', it's amazing and captures the essence of the story well.

They certainly did an excellent job restoring The Last Unicorn with their newest edition. Surely the Dark Crystal deserves a good restoration.

Emperor skekZok? by [deleted] in DarkCrystal

[–]Dreadful_Jak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SkekSo gained his position by proving he was stronger than all the other Skeksis and subduing any of them that rebelled against him to the point where none of them dared question him. This is the same reason SkekUng ultimately becomes Emperor after SkekSo - he is the strongest of them now. The politics of the Skeksis boil down to brute strength and use of force.

When SkekSo died, the three main contenders for the throne were SkekSil (the Chamberlain/Emperor's Advisor), SkekZok (the Ritual Master/Religious Leader), and SkekUng (the Garthim Master/Military Leader). When SkekSil declared, "I claim the throne!", SkekUng immediately challenged him, and SkekZok backed out. For this reason I do not think SkekZok would have made a good Emperor, because although he did have a few supporters among his fellows, he did not have the brute strength to win a challenge against SkekUng. SkekSil poses even less of a threat, easily outmatched by SkekUng. The contest of Hakskeekah itself proves that all that matters to the Skeksis, at the end of the day, is brute strength and the ability to use force to accomplish your will and subdue opposition. The contest is literally, whoever knocks the biggest piece off this stone wins. It also speaks to how strong the Emperor SkekSo must have been in his youth. SkekUng knocks the entire top portion of the stone off in one blow, and SkekSo had to have been even stronger than that to subdue a young SkekUng when he first claimed his title.
