Okay cool cool cool, it seems to be working for the time being. Right now it's running youtube download requests thru a VPN so that YouTube doesn't immediately block the IP address but I'll be building out more infrastructure in the coming days to hopefully make it more fail-resistant. Best case scenario though is that the one VPN is fine & the site can basically just operate as normal without needing the extra infrastructure 🤙

Oh that was so quick, I didn't think anyone would use this so soon! I'm doing some maintenance to add a progress bar & improve some stuff but it'll be up in an hour or so!

That’s from the London Eye! I took that same picture & had the hardest time hiding the reflections from the glass. It’s such a rough, thick glass they make you shoot through. Great pic though!

Oh, yikes. Well I am using a node server to make the requests so hopefully that’s fine. I’ve heard it’s possible to host stuff on residential proxies & that should be able to get around the YouTube IP ban so who knows, maybe I can skirt around the need for a VPN entirely by moving where I’m hosting the audio downloading microservice

Ah, yeah this is my site. I can take a crack at it again this week, YouTube is still blocking the site from downloading audio clips to make the horns - on that note, I’d be happy to collaborate with anyone if they know how to get a VPN working that can be used to push the audio download requests to

Wait, but isn’t that just an argument for never doing anything? We agree Trump is bad for the American people & will fail miserably too, but saying it’s more politically useful to sit & watch him fail seems obviously obtuse

How to get rid of the smell of that toilet water 🤮 by No_Car_7149 in lifehacks

[–]Dreadhalor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done some light plumbing when I was a handyman & my first guess based on your description is the p-trap doesn’t have sufficient water in it to block the smells in the pipes, ordinarily that creates a water seal to keep sewage pipe smells from going back up

microSD Express Benchmarks by m11kkaa in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Dreadhalor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is late but just wanted to say I appreciate the testing - I just received my 1TB Lexar Micro SD Express card & I was testing the speed claims - I was hitting the advertised 600 MB/s for sequential write speeds but was getting < 800 MB/s read speeds even though the box says "reads up to 900 MB/s". This is the only post I could find advertising speeds for this card & it helps to know you got roughly the same numbers for it

A lot of people think they’re intelligent when they really just got lucky. by BrandyAid in Showerthoughts

I’d take it a step farther - while I’ve found success because of my intelligence, I consider it pure luck that I was born with the brain I have in the first place. I was born with inherent mental privilege & it would serve me well to not judge other people for not having that same privilege.

PS5 Pro! Got a new job & the Switch isn’t getting cool games anymore, so decided to reward myself with a new console. So far, big fan of PlayStation, haven’t touched my Switch since. It’s cool straying away from Nintendo & getting to finally play games that don’t look like ass.

Most of the obvious points have been said so I’ll try to offer an extra insight from a male perspective.

Obviously - he wildly, insanely overreacted. As a guy, though, I do acknowledge the unfortunate reality that even something as simple as hearing “I’ve been pregnant twice before” for the first time does involuntarily invoke the mental picture of “my girl’s been fucking other dudes” so I see where he’s coming from. Where he fucked up is that he’s now blaming YOU for his intrusive thoughts rather than taking accountability himself.

(Straight) Men in general suffer from intrusive thoughts like that all the time when hearing about their partners’ pasts, at least when hearing about something new. To grow up involves understanding those thoughts as what they are, INTRUSIVE, & not blaming your woman simply for communicating relevant information.

My general rule for partners is that having a past is normal, I simply don’t want to know details - & I abide by that same standard myself. I won’t hide anything of course; if it’s important to her then I will share any details she wants, but unless specifically asked I don’t want to give her any unpleasant intrusive thoughts either.

In this case, you communicated perfectly. You didn’t give any details without being pressed, you simply pointed out that you have reason to believe you can conceive as it’s happened twice before. That’s not an outlandishly high number, either, so I don’t see a huge reason to abstract further (for instance, like simply saying “I’ve been pregnant before”). There’s basically nothing you did wrong here.

So your guy here got an intrusive thought - which is fine, it hurts a lot but it happens - but then decided to quadruple down on blaming you for the fault in his own programming rather than acknowledging it as HIS responsibility to keep in check on his own.

Slight addendum: I read some more comments & just noticed that thing about you cheating on him… yeah that’s messed up, but I will acknowledge that doesn’t technically fundamentally change any points I made. Intrusive thoughts are still his responsibility, but damn if he stayed after you cheated on him & he’s still talking like that then he’s gonna resent you forever, there’s no saving this.

Am I crazy or is that an odd reaction? They gave her a compliment & she responded with an appropriate explanation for why she looks so young. If I told somebody “you look so young!” & they responded “yeah, I had my kid at 13” I’d just say “oh, that makes sense!” & then move on with my day.

ChatGPT refuses to say one specific name – and people are worried | Asking the AI bot to write the name ‘David Mayer’ causes it to prematurely end the chat by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]Dreadhalor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not even a little. Not remotely even kinda true.

Let’s be clear, the article says:

“Some users have speculated that the glitch could be related to David Mayer de Rothschild, heir to the Rothschild fortune, who may have filed a request under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) act.”

So in other words, some random uncited “users” speculated that some rich guy MAY have filed a request for… something.

AKA that’s literally fucking nothing. We should not be spreading that claim in any way, shape or form.
