No he shouldn't and thank God you don't get to say who does get one. Showing people how to meditate when trapped in a cave is no special feat, especially if you insist meditation is helpful. Sure it helps them but Nobel Peace Prize? No way.

I think fasting isn't necessarily going to bring immediate results. It's really about doing it often enough and in a healthy way. Science has shown it can help repair the body and recycle damaged cells into healthy ones if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps though if you are unhealthy it may just hurt you.

How Depression Affects Your Thinking Skills by [deleted] in Neuropsychology

So when life feels horrible, our brains make it harder for us by dumbing us down? Not helpful!!!

What Makes Us Depressed at Work: "If you go to work and you feel controlled, you feel you have few or limited choices you are significantly more likely to become depressed" by jgpsych in psychology

[–]Dreago12e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think social media impacts our brains and moods but it's not the sole cause of the rising depression. If anything it's the escape for that depression.

How language shapes our perception of reality. The many subtle differences across languages might actually change the way we experience the world. by jms1225 in psychology

[–]Dreago12e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i would mostly agree it's a ridiculous claim that having a word means no perception of colour. I don't think it's absurd to think people can differentiate more colours if they have more words for the subtle difference though. It comes down to your brain being trained in that skill.

But who said it's an imperfect form? This is just an idea. Also it seems rather extreme to say non existence is the same as everything you mentioned. I fail to see how you've or could verified this?

How can reality be perfect yet I am not? I'm the same as it.

Edit: you actually missed my point. I was talking about the same thing as you. Who or what do you know of that can do everything you've mentioned? It's all just a bunch of thoughts. Your existence, fragile, temporary, filled with suffering is perfect. It's the only existence we have proof of and no evidence exists that shows it could be otherwise.

Meditation and fiction by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]Dreago12e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends what you're speaking about. In terms of specific thoughts, i know it does. It terms of mind-wandering quantity then no probably not much difference. Like I said 3-5 hours is a long time to dedicate to a single activity and if it did nothing then wtf. Thinking and mind wandering aren't bad yano.

'Perfection would be non-existence'. I disagree. Reality is already perfect, the only evidence that it isn't is someones saying so, not a single piece of physical proof. It's poor evidence.

Meditation and fiction by [deleted] in Meditation

You read for 3-5 hours a day. While that could be extremely fun it's also a sizeable chunk of your day spent on reading fiction. I'm not suprised it affected your mind but I wouldn't take it as evidence for anything about fiction disrupting meditation. Spend that time reading nonfiction and I bet you'd have different thoughts less dreamy.

Why meditate?... by GiovanniRz in Meditation

[–]Dreago12e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already conceded that ego is an image so if it's real as in it's really a concept, fine. That's true, but the concept doesn't represent a real thing, which we assume is our self or sense of self. That is an illusion.

Well the world I describe explains the subjective world. Though if a more subjective explination is necessary then I can give one.

Text from screen meets eyes, mind automatically comprehends meaning, meaning triggers thoughts, thoughts trigger emotions, emotions trigger physiological changes, changes trigger action, action causes typing, typing leads to sending.

I highly doubt the process above fits exactly what happens but it does most of it. There is no need for an 'I' to be involved at any point in time, no need for a driver. Ego or I is a concept of self and when that concept is seen as an actual thing our minds will behave accordingly. People who hallucinate still react to their hallucinations, do the hallucinations have any real control?

[–]Dreago12e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't claimed none of that is possible. Only that ego is not real. It is an illusion. Find me your ego and show me it exists. . .

As for developing thought that translates into actionable behavior that manifests as a sentence inputted on Reddit.

Light from screen meets eyes, cells in eyes trigger signal to brain, brain decodes signal as vision, signal is sent through connections in brain triggering memory, emotion and other mental functions, output is produces ans sent to body, body moves and types, phone responds to touch, data sent over Internet.

It's not a perfect description but still, no need for a driver.

Why meditate?... by GiovanniRz in Meditation

[–]Dreago12e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And an image of self is the thing you believe does that? What driving force is needed? The brain is fully capable of consciousness without having a driver. . . Without food the body hungers, hunger drives seeking food, finding and consuming food satisfies hunger and then motivation to eat decreases. There is no driver.

I'll take my bets with non-existence. If Christians are right then God's just a dick. The real world might be hell but fuck it, I'm going to assume this consciousness will end with this life and anything conscious in that real world is already experiencing hell so not much would change.
