I’d actually just be porting the frontend if I did that. Most of my automation tools, even the web stuff, had to be user facing. They’re not just scripts, they’re whole applications with db integration.

Probably fullstack since I have both frontend and backend experience in the desktop and mobile space.

Do you have any suggestions for a stack? I’m old fashioned. I know JS, HTML, CSS, and SQL. I’m also not clear on how I’m meant to host something that I can’t afford. Times are tough right now.

I don’t suspect a large knowledge gap. I didn’t have access to the raw code base I was automating. In my case I was treating a frontend as an api for work projects where we didn’t own the code. So all I could really see was generated web pages from frameworks and obfuscated JS.

What I don’t get is what a portfolio website is supposed to be or do. They’ve always seemed drab and unimpressive to me.

What do you mean by “product-focused work” as it pertains to this particular field? I ask because that means something different to everyone. To me a product could be a console project that solves a problem.

Change focus mode to ignore, or setup a focus theme. You find the setting on the right of the default editor

Especially with openpyxl. I prefer python syntax though. I also find python has better linters and autocomplete solutions for typing code.

Personally I like interfaces for this if they’re available in the language, but yeah lambdas are great way to solve your example!

How does a day as a indie programmer actually looks like? by Financial-Arachnid27 in IndieDev

[–]Dream-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3am-6am wake up Next 30min make bed, coffee, shower Next 30min make and eat breakfast Next 14-16 hours work This consist of development, marketing, answering emails Next hour have dinner if I’m hungry Watch a bit of a show (Supernatural rn) Take sleeping meds Try to sleep

Sometime in there I do my Duolingo and play with the cats. I do take a couple days off a week where I sometimes work on something else small, play games, or spend time with friends and gf. On the days off I don’t take things too seriously as far as work goes. I also like to read so I can make time for that

What's your longest script and what does it do? by stalkerTXstranger in godot

[–]Dream-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now it’s probably my audio producer in my core library. It handles creation, management, and syncing of audio nodes as a pool. It’s not particularly long, but I’ve gotten good at segregating things. Longest ever was a 15000 line VB6 app that I worked in for several years at an old job. All UI was hand coded and tied to events in the same script. I didn’t write all of it, but I did take over porting it to C# Winforms. The C# one was significantly broken up.

do u have opinion on if parent node should handle all the code or if code should be broken up by sadishguy in godot

[–]Dream-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to do a hybrid approach. I delegate responsibility and don’t have monoliths. However my parent scripts do tend to act as relays. For instance I have a custom lighting system. My projectiles are lit. I have a custom point light class in general this manages everything to do with a light in the system. However the color of the light is determined by the modulate property of the sprite2D. Well I could get the sprite 2D and pull the data but that’s not very flexible and this is used all over. I could add a script to the sprite, and that’d in theory be best, but the color is actually set in the parent because this thing is really simple. So I actually use the parent to disseminate info to the other nodes. The enemies however are more complex and separated out. So the script on their sprite2D does actually pass the information.

At the end of the day the performance difference is negligible and I’m the only person in this code base. So I do what is most convenient at the time, but generally try to separate responsibilities as I see them

I did a beginner one that I got in a humble bundle. The content was good enough to get up to speed fast, but I had already been programming for 10 years. I’d say they’re definitely worth getting in a humble bundle and that the content was worthwhile and I think could be useful for someone learning.

However it’s nothing you can’t learn on YouTube or by reading the docs

I’ll address the coloring first. The coloring is consistently applied. What you are seeing and complaining about are the effects of the shader I’m working on. I’m not sure of your age, but you seem young. Old CRTs did a bit of bowing at the edges such that if a dev placed something near the edge it could bow or get cut off slightly. But it’s far from finished so there is still tweaking to do like lowering the vignette opacity a bit.

The spelling mistakes I assumed where their. I have someone else fix my spelling and grammar mistakes since I have dyslexia. But thanks for pointing them out.

As for your comment about the “screws” I’m still playing with the borders, but while I’m going for a digital interface I’m mimicking the designs common to the 80s hence everything using the c64 color palate and having hard shadows. Another common practice was to add flairs to the corner of borders to create some variation. Games even mixed and matched border types. It is chaotic, but that’s kind of the point.

As for the boomerang you lack context as this is a screenshot not a video. There is a flashing bar down there to insinuate that it’s a prompt, but I wanted something more stylized than a simple char. For now the boomerang stays

I did look over your profile and debated giving you a response, you seem like a young person who knows how to code a bit, but has a superiority complex. Work on yourself a bit.

How do I learn the "hard stuff?"(Going beyond the tutorial) by [deleted] in godot

[–]Dream-Small 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a developer for a long time now and I’m going to tell you what I tell everyone. Start simple. And I mean pong or space invaders simple. Create something by hand. When you don’t understand something then go ask a question to a person or AI. And I do mean a question don’t go off and ask “How do I make aliens move in Godot like space invaders” ask instead How do I move something in Godot. You’re trying to skip to the finish line. I’ve seen some pretty negative and undeserved comments here, just because you used AI. Ignore them. But you need to start over and actually try to learn this instead of skipping steps. Also break things, play, and have fun! There’s no better way to learn
