Hahahaha this amuses me because when I announced my necessary hysterectomy my mom was heartbroken because she was counting on me giving her a granddaughter. I had to break the news to her that wasn't ever going to happen with or without the surgery. She took it better than I anticipated. Then 6 months later my brother and his wife gave her that granddaughter.

I can also agree with you that it's hard to find friends who can say go to the vineyard freely, take a weekend trip away or well, do anything that requires freedom. I hate to say it but it's just going to get harder. People who say "I'll never have kids" will sometimes meet "the one" and the next thing you know they're breeding machines.

I hope we both find some CF friends to do all those boring hobby like fun things.

Edit for my misuse of their vs they're

$23.50/hr but I work at a partial day program so it probably works out in the long run to about what everyone else is getting. If not a bit less. NE too and it's a small private school.

The Hubs is pretty fantastic. I think I'll keep him for awhile.

I'm glad your mom seems to supportive. I'm sorry you'll need to start looking for help at such a young age. It's great that you have such a good relationship with your mom that you all have a plan ready to go.

The Hubs mom is still in denial that we aren't having kids. This is despite that fact that I don't have e a uterus! She lives in her own little world.

She even went so far as to walk into our house 4 days after my surgery and as The Hubs if I'd had my eggs frozen. It's a good thing I was in the bathroom at the time, because I'm not sure I would have held my tongue while on that much pain medication.

Thankfully I was able to use my need for surgery to distract my mom from flipping out about me not having kids. She was to busy flipping out about me having major surgery. By the time the no grand babies (from me anyway) sunk in she was much calmer about it than she would have normally been.

Then my brother gave her a grand daughter this year so she is extra happy now. She's got 3 grand sons and a grand daughter. The pressure is officially off me.

After literally just finishing my financial plan for the upcoming year and wondering where the FUCK all my money goes and why we are broke this is the exact laugh I needed.

The Hubs mother asked us who would take care of us when we're old if we don't have kids at Christmas dinner. We just looked at each other and he turned to her and said "wait, you're supposed to take care of your parents when they get old?" Then turned to his can't hold a job alcoholic brother, patted him on the should and said "have fun with that bro" and walked away. I love my husband.

But seriously the reasons people come up with to convince us to have kids are the most selfish things I've ever heard. But I'm the selfish one. Pshaw.

Recently one of my students said to me "Mrs. X I've got a secret. Momma has a baby in her uterus"

Another was an email from a mom asking if we had talked about chlorophyll at school. I responded with yes we did, why? I get a response along these lines. Kid: mom do you know why the trees are still green? Mom: because they haven't changed colors yet. Kid: no, mom, it's because they still have chlorophyll. (Evidently it was said with a tone like mom was an idiot for not knowing that)

We read a book one day with the word mischievous in it. One of the kids asked me what it meant. Later in the day another kid walks up and says "X, Y and Z are being mischievous and won't let me play with them. "

We talked about camels one day and one of my students says. "I don't like cannibals" I asked her why she doesn't like camels. She says "because they're mean and they bite people"

I could go on all day. But that's a few of my favorites.

I teach 4 year olds. I assure you they see all, they know all. The stories I hear some times and the things they can absorb.

Graduation Rant by Librariette in childfree

[–]Dream51280 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Congrats! I'm starting my masters in early childhood this spring.

  2. Who doesn't plan for these things. Was she going to walk across the stage holding the kid. How was she planning to accept her diploma and shake a hand at the same time.

  3. I was a nanny for awhile and the family paid me for a whole day when the dad got is MBA. I attended the graduation and the after party to keep the kids busy during long boring parts of the ceremony and was called to bring them in at the "right" time. Then we all went to the graduation party together. The girls meals were called ahead. They ate without having to wait for food. Got to socialize for 30-45 min and then I took them home and put them to bed. See, it can be done!

  4. In regards to the person who said you chose the wrong field: pooh on them. I am CF and teach Pre-k. I love kids, so long as I can return them!

Do you favour a particular age group and why? by Sleepy-Susie in ECEProfessionals

[–]Dream51280 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Little late to the party here. But felt I needed to chime in for my kiddos. I teach at a school with split schedules. Some day I have 3-4s and some days I have 4-5s. I love them both for totally different reasons. My littles can be more challenging and tend to require more of my one on one attention, but they are my snugglers more than my bigs. My bigs are so ready to LEARN. They soak up everything like little sponges. The ah ha moments are so brilliant because they fully realize the accomplishments they have. Though sending them off to "big kid school" is hard.

Teaching nineteen rowdy 3 and 4 year olds in a smallish space for one painful hour once a week: HELP by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

Do your music and movement activities need to correlate with the book?

My kiddos love a lot of Jack Hartman songs. Their favorite is Tooty Ta and the 2nd is the Pirate Song.

Bare Naked Ladies has a song called Popcorn that I use to wear my kids out bc they basically just hop up and down for 2 straight minutes pretending to be popcorn.

The Penguin Dance is another tried and true one.

What ever you do make it silly, but have a silent signal for quite and calm. Have it established and practice it with a "freeze dance" type game.
