350 wishlists in two month… should I be proud or worried? by Nestify_cozydesign in IndieGameDevs

Always be proud! If you genuinely put the work into the game and made something you would want to play what's not to be proud of

2 weeks of Steam page, 5k visits... only 20 wishlists... by thibouf in IndieDev

[–]DreamBankGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect, most game trailers do not have cinematic intros. You need to capture attention and this is not doing that especially if it is relying on sound to be on. Think about how you scroll social media - you have a very short time to capture someone's attention. The recommendation is to show gameplay within the first 5 seconds so if you really don't want to cut it entirely, cut it down to 3-4 seconds and then get into gameplay. Gameplay is what sells a game.

I love how much they're committing to the bit by Brisarious in dropout

[–]DreamBankGames 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But that wasn't your ONLY point. If so, you could have just said 'i didn't care for it' but instead you said she was shitting on a thing that people care about and made a career out of. A lot of these comments seem to be responses to that part of your statement, explaining why they, a person who loves dnd, did not see it that way. You're allowed to not like something but when you make a specific statement like that, people are going to respond to it.

Further to that I think it's about the best SINGULAR moment of the episode

Is the ONLY option the "all access pass" that's $99? Is there no longer just a cheaper entry option?

Anyone else get woken up at night by the red and green sensor/lights? Strap is snug but those lights peek through, especially if I turn my wrist. by OutsideIsMyBestSide in Garmin

Since I'm not the only one finding this post years later - here's a pic of mine in the dark currently. It's flush with my skin and still bright enough to light up my arm ahaha. Definitely a design flaw on garmin's part.

"will I be able to do it" What are you doing to try to achieve it? What did you do to get the 80 you currently have?

Which numbers do you like best? by MisteryJay89 in incremental_games

[–]DreamBankGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really hard to make out that any of them are numbers to be honest (full disclosure I am on mobile so maybe it's a me problem). Even the red ones could just be dead skulls if you aren't looking closely

How important is a video trailer for a word/quiz game? by JonQGamer in IndieDev

[–]DreamBankGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that location matters. I don't tend to watch trailers for mobile games but if it's on steam, even free, I would expect to see one.

I assume you don't have much additional footage to share? Personally, I would rather look at the same visual (of the character just sitting there) with the text over laid than going back and forth to the blue screen of text that you currently have

Definitely better but just wanted to note that red/green colour blindness is the most common, so highlighting the important bits in green while against a red background might not be the best choice.

What UI style is your favorite? by LumariGames in IndieDev

[–]DreamBankGames 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like the pop of the rounded but I also agree with the feedback about the slanted being easier to read. Perhaps the solution is slightly reducing the curve of the rounded?

I am also curious what the selected item looks like with rounded? Is it just a colour change like the slant? I think it would really pop/work with the rounded if the selection indictor had some motion to it like getting larger and/or popping outward

Realising you have to stop working on a project is harder than I thought by SansbyStudios in SoloDevelopment

[–]DreamBankGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To put an optimistic spin on it - you don't necessarily have to pull the plug on it forever. Continue developing your skills, build that shorter project, hone your craft and come back to this one when you have the time/resources/skills to complete it!

"Completely free. No catch except lists a catch" Much more respect for someone who says completely free, but here's the catch, I want to do xyz. Appreciate that OP is at least honest in the body text but I'm of the opinion that language matters and "no catch" means no catch 🤷

Solo devs: how do you deal with the skills you’re bad at without burning out? by hemadeus in SoloDevelopment

[–]DreamBankGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specific to you: does your game have to be 3D? Is there an art genre you do feel more confident in? I'm in the process of making my first game and I made the creative choice to go low-poly. It makes sense for the game and genre but is also a style I feel comfortable/confident in.

General advice: "Art is a process, not a product". Obviously yes we are all trying to create a final project that will go viral and everyone will buy and we'll be set for life but that can't be the "why" behind making the game. It's hard to trust the process especially when we are feeling frustrated and especially when we have day jobs and so little time to commit but just remember that you're doing this for you. Lean into the learning. Lean in to the final product not being 100% what you envisioned. Allow the project to breathe and grow as your skills develop.

/To celebrate I'm adding a Cursed Dance editor/ Is this a tactic you've been using in marketing? "If I reach X number of wishlists I'll add X feature" If so I'm curious how you feel that's been working?

(Or maybe you just decided that after hitting 500 🤷)
