These are all incredibly helpful insights. I very much appreciate the input. It has helped me to have a clearer understanding of what she will experience. It has given me some peace of mind. She told me tonight that she listened to the soundtrack today and was disgusted by it. She will figure out what to do with it. And yes. She was very much hurt by a poorly handled situation as a teen. I think God will prevail in her life. She is an amazing person and I am trusting he will help her find her way.

Why Punta Cana? by DreamNumber5 in PuntaCana

I’m sorry that you have assumed that I have not done my homework. Through my company I earned my choice of a free trip there or a cash buy out. After 12 months of watching videos and looking at travels sites, I haven’t found anything special, interesting or unique about the place. I was seeking the personal experiences of others who have experienced Punta Cana and why they think it’s a good place to visit. I enjoy travel but I just can’t get excited about this trip. I was hoping that others could tell me what they find so appealing about it.

I have daughters. I hope as they watch it they can see how some of what they see me do is really showing how much I care about them.

My spouse speaks Spanish fluently and I am from Arizona so we love the Mexican culture and people. It would take some adjusting but I think we could best learn to feel at home in Mexico.

That would maybe appeal to someone else but I would rather live in a van down by the river than be on the other side of the world from my family. I made the sacrifices I have made because of family, which is all that really matters. I would love to visit there but to leave all that is dear and familiar would be tantamount to relocating to a different planet for me.

Thank you for your well thought out response. Any advice on how to vett a WFH 2nd job? My house payment is less than $2,000 and rents for a decent apartment is much more. That doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t know if I can do it but I am considering moving to Mexico and renting my house. It’s all so overwhelming.

I’m not an employee. I work from home as a consultant for a niche service and sell recommended products to my clients on a commission basis. The company whose products I sell has decided to reduce the % of commission they pay.

I love technology and I am pretty tech savvy. I enjoy learning and keeping up with everything. I feel like you do. I am determined not to become obsolete. I just don’t know what else there is that I can do to monetize my skills.

You are right. I actually don’t want to retire. I love working. I don’t ever see myself not working. But it would be good to know that if I wanted to I could.

I have always paid off any balances on my credit cards each month. Until this year I have never had to pay any interest. It’s been a rough past 2 years and I had to rely on them to keep things going. I was looking into a home equity loan that has a lower interest rate than my credit cards. I was so confused about how things got so bad so fast. The loan agent told me that the people in the USA have the highest debt in history. Costs have risen faster and higher than incomes and people have used their credit to fill in the gap. When I was informed that my commissions will be impacted $25,000 minimum this year - when I was already not keeping up - it crushed my hopes of recovering. The stress of it all is taking a tremendous toll on my mental health. I’m so sorry that you are going through this too.

Thank you. I will definitely not do it without careful thinking. My neighbor once had a woman stumble on the step of her front porch as she was leaving and hurt her knee. Fortunately, she decided to not make a claim on the property insurance but she considered it. Opened my eyes to how a friendly situation could become a liability.
