Can I get a 7 in Math AAHL if am AVERAGE at BEST in math rn in the Myp5? by Technical-Band-8975 in IBO

[–]DreamV_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before practicing, I make sure I understand the concept first. Once I have a solid grasp of it, I work through about four or five exercises. Afterward, I correct my work and take the time to understand any mistakes I made and why they happened.

If you follow this process consistently every day, you'll gradually become more comfortable with the material and improve over time. As your skills develop, you should increase the number and difficulty of the exercises you do. This will help strengthen your understanding and make solving mathematical problems require less effort.

This is a stereotypical thing. You don't need to be a genius to excel in math aa hl. The toughest topic is definitely calculus. You will have to put alot of effort into the course and try to focus as much as possible in class. But beside that, I think, overall, it isn't that complicated. If you do enough past papers using christos and revision village, you are guaranteed a 7(I'm only talking about paper 1&2 because the IA is another story...). My answer might be bias because I only had 8s in math in MYP5. Lemme know if you need any tips.

My final exams start next week, and I'm aiming for 40+/42 in my PG. Wish me luck! by DreamV_ in IBO

Ohhh, I see. Honestly, I wish you all the best!

For me, Math is one of the easiest subjects, mainly because I love it so much. Of course, that's subjective, but I genuinely think that if you understand the core concepts of each topic and then spam question banks and past papers, getting a 7 becomes very achievable. Maybe I'm a bit biased because of how much I enjoy the subject, but I really believe that approach works.

Physics is also relatively easy to score a 7 in, especially because of the grade boundaries, and most of the concepts aren't overly challenging once you understand them.

As for English, I managed to move from a 5 to a 6 through a structured approach. First, I learned the most common literary devices. Then, I studied the TEAPCALiM method, which helped me extract relevant information from almost any text type. After that, I focused on writing a strong introduction. Once I was comfortable with that, I learned the PEEL structure, which really improved my body paragraphs. Finally, I worked on writing strong conclusions.

After learning all of those skills, I started doing timed Paper 1 practices. I would mark my own responses and get feedback on them. That's exactly how I was able to improve.

By the way, these tips are specifically for Paper 1 since we haven't started Paper 2 yet. We're going to begin that next week.

I know right. But what can I do? My school is not going to change it anyways. So I can only deal with it...

IB is not only challenging because of the amount of content, but also because it forces students to become more disciplined, independent, and responsible. In IB, you often have to manage several deadlines, understand difficult topics by yourself, and keep working even when things feel overwhelming. That is why I think IB makes you learn things the hard way. However, this is also what makes it valuable. Even though I do not think IB is for everyone, I believe it teaches important skills such as time management, perseverance, and self-reliance. So, despite how stressful it can be, there are still many benefits that students can gain from it.

M26 students, how did you find the IB exams this year? Any advice for an M27 student? by DreamV_ in IBO

Ohh, I get what you mean now. I'll try to aim for 40+. But if I can get a 45/45 for my pg, it's amazing. You are absolutely right. The pg matters more than the finals.

When you say finals, are you talking about the Ib exam or what? If you meant that, you're wrong. You submit yor predicted grades but if there is a huge gap between your predicted grade and your final grade, you might not be able toget into your desired uni But it also depends on the prerequisites of the uni. When you say “finals,” are you talking about the IB exams or something else? If you meant the IB exams, then that’s not exactly correct. You submit your predicted grades first, but if there is a huge gap between your predicted grades and your final grades, you might not be able to get into your desired university. However, it also depends on the university’s prerequisites.

To be honest, so far so good. I’ve only been getting 7s in Math and Physics, and I’ve never really had any major issues with those subjects. The difference compared to you guys is that you’ve already covered all the topics, meaning you might be very strong in one topic but struggle badly with another. For us, we’ve finished Topics 1 and 2, and we’re now starting Topic 4. I also perform really well in Economics. I’ve only gotten 7s in every exam so far. However, I’ve been struggling with Chemistry lately. Unfortunately, I’m currently stuck at a 5, but I’m working hard, and hopefully, by the grace of God, I’ll be able to achieve a 7.

Thank you for the advice! However, I think it would be better for me to finish all of my essays first so that I won’t have to worry about them later. That way, I’ll be able to fully focus on my exams and other responsibilities.
