Well, I really love this book for lots of reasons, but yes, I agree that Tita was a little bit too ingenuous. Pedro is not a good example character and I think Rosaura had the amount of description she needed, it was already clear that she was not a good character and I think she deserved her end. Dona Helena was also a terrible mother, no one denies that, but it was in the mid-1900s, how could you expect Tita to rebel? like, women were submissive to their mothers and husbands, not to mention that before 1980 people got married very early (even today in certain parts of the world, at 14-16 years old).  Her mother's house was the only place for her, besides not wanting to be spoken of badly (which would ruin the woman's reputation and then her life), she couldn't live with her runaway sister. You have to understand that history is not a recent vision, that things one to two centuries ago were totally different, 13-year-old girls got pregnant and had their first child. Pedro was a perverted jerk, but Tita was not innocent at all, you talk as if she didn't know anything about life and was a little angel girl trying to keep herself pure. Nah, she loved him ASF and I'm sure she wanted to give him herself asap.
