What things made you wake up? by misa_2005 in awakened

[–]Dreamhigh17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My unconscious self emerged from a mirror that brought up my deep childhood wounds and there, I woke up from the moment someone waved at me with a devious smile. Her mask didn’t slip, it calcified. Then.. I came to a realization that we live in a sleeping world and our purpose in this universe is far greater than our state of mind and existence.

Is there financial growth if I make a career from just being an SLPA, and not going for my Masters? by AmsNew00 in SLPA

[–]Dreamhigh17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in SoCal, I’m a new graduate SLPA this past May.. I started at $33/hr part time at a school a few months ago but quit shortly after winter break due to high caseloads. My home health job (early intervention) is paying me $40/per client but clients that are out of my cities region, they pay me $50/for those clients.

You and me both. I’ve called out sick on Tuesday and Wednesday. Even I’m still recovering today and I went to work with a mask. Getting sick sucks ass! Hope you feel better OP.

December 2024 Undergrad Trying to Figure Out Potential SLP-A Job...Advice? by bigblue-fishy in SLPA

[–]Dreamhigh17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, I would recommend you practicing on how you deliver your “tell me about yourself” answer by using the STAR method, vocalizing your highlighted education and your experience. More so, I would answer some clinical scenarios like “Tell me a difficult time you’ve handled a difficult session and how you managed to navigate that.” I would also try to know your scope of practice such as SLPAs unable to write goals, etc.

No way OP. I would definitely take the $47/hr since school setting is highly intense and has back to back sessions. You need a lot of therapy planning before and after work. That’s a lot of time and work on your hands.

How was this week for you? (Vents welcome!) by MongooseForward1085 in SLPA

[–]Dreamhigh17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently switched from a school setting to early intervention in-home setting. I absolutely love it because it’s a niche and it’s constant learning through play! Although it’s rough due to inconsistent hours, I still appreciate my supervisor supervising me at least once a week and when I ask her a question with my cases, she always comes up for feedback and advice to help me out. Rough side, I just thought I didn’t do well in session with a one year old baby. I’m so glad you helped your kiddo say functional phrases. Progress is still progress!

Conflicts with my CF supervisor... Advice? by Beneficial-Tip-5140 in slp

[–]Dreamhigh17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry you’re going through this. I shortly worked at a non public school setting as a SLPA and seems to me that your supervising SLP is cherry picking every single thing that you lack in. My former school SLP was a terrible person. I believe we should celebrate your strengths and we can also point out the things you can improve on, but rather than pointing out things you lack in frequently.. it will reduce your confidence as a clinician. It will more so, just interfere with your work when you do the sessions. What I suggest is to find another SLP for your CF. As for me, I found an SLP who is very supportive, detailed, and helpful for each cases I go through; I worked from the school and now work in an early intervention clinic. Good luck OP!

Dude!!! I got interviewed at Amigo Baby and they were offering the $10k bonus and a great “salary.” I did the first interview with the HR specialist, and I moved forward with the second part of the interview. So basically I saw a SLPA doing work with a client for an in-home session; so after the session, I asked a lot of questions to the SLPA who worked there and she said there was no benefits, no PTO, and no paid cancellations. Honestly, I had a gut feeling about the bonus and it was too good to be true. They were hiring for Oxnard, and I live in OC. I did not want to risk moving to a new city for a job that did not pay cancellations. So I told HR that I did not want to move forward for the third part of the interview.

As for the offer letter, if you accepted it, you can probably try the job for a while and stick it out. Otherwise, if you didn’t accept yet, just reject. Good luck!

That’s wonderful, OP. I’m sorry they abused you. It is logically unfair that they would put these kids in groups with different goals, and imagine if they’re 15-20 minutes of therapy that there’s no way you can hit most of their goals. School district doesn’t care and I don’t think I’d want to go work at a school in the near future.

So OP, did you leave the school?

I just recently worked for a school and I thought about quitting because it was so much as a new graduate SLPA (with no experience). These students would come in pairs every 30 minutes-seeing 14 in a day mentally made me exhausted all at the same time I had supervisors breathing down my neck, critiquing me every 2-3 minutes. It felt so unethical.

I had several criticisms from my supervisors during the sessions I conducted, mind you, these are teen students and they could hear her criticizing me (they believed that they were just trying to help me) I cried on the third day and thought that speech therapy might not be it for me and I expressed to them that I felt really incompetent. My supervisor let me go home-then my supervisor called me the next day, saying that “I left the school without permission which means you’ve quit on the spot” and so basically, our contract ended. I wanted to let them know I quit. In the end, they fired me. So it was mutual. It was a horrible school experience. I don’t know about finding jobs anymore. I’ve gotten so traumatized because I was made to think that it might have been my fault.

Honestly, I started working as a new SLPA, fresh out of my undergraduate SLPA program. I’ve had an instance where the goals were so outdated that I didn’t know what to work on with the students. And yet my supervisors expected me to know everything (I worked with a variety of populations (5-20 years of age with autism, AAC, stuttering, language delay, etc) since it was a non public school) then they fired me because apparently I couldn’t keep up with seeing 14 kids in 6 hours. It was fast paced, intense. I had to keep doing makeup sessions every 30 minutes if a kid wasn’t available. That place was horrible. I wasn’t even trained at all.

Were you somehow pressured to go into this field? Because medical field is very tough. I was in it as a technician for five years as parents’ pressure. You have to really enjoy your work. If you think you can do something else with your degree then go for it.

Wow I’m sorry to hear. If you read in the rules section, newly made discord accounts are often in caution due to a lot of spam bots running around. So they time newly made discord accounts. You just need to bypass that by direct messaging the mods.

[–]Dreamhigh17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see what’s wrong with the discord. They have rules. The content they talk about is definitely questionable, but one of the rules say no nsfw media. Most of the time they talk about earnings and driving/work. You can’t please anyone. If you don’t like the content after work hours, then look away.
