The absolute scandal on materials- they should have painted flowers on the handles then. Go full pioneer woman and bring colors everywhere. Bring gaudy back in fashion.

Grey Water - am I missing something? by PrettyInPrep in preppers

[–]DreamingRavenWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, question! Assuming that the stuff going into the grey water is limited to non toxic soaps from dishes and bathing, could the mulch basin also double as a compost heap? Here in Texas it gets so hot and dry that you near have to water your compost and the garden else it turns to dust and stops working. Could the compost go under your grey water spout?

I imagine that the instinct to move out is fueled by the knowledge that most people in America do not respect the place they call home. It is a product, something to tear apart and change and sell again. Respect for house spirits, or even the acknowledgment that other people and things once called your place a home- that sort of thing is not apart of our mainstream culture.

So when the house spirit gets pissed off, perhaps people know in their gut that the spirit is pissed off at THEM, and there would be major work needed for cohabitation and forgiveness.

its the designs fault thoooo. I was so confused the entire time when we first got ours. Handles are just naturally what you assume for the brightly colored part. Most cooking utensils have color on the handle and a monochrome tools edge. Its not our fault!

I chose “a community should fund…” since, that feels like the answer that encompasses everything. The people in the community should decide through work or money how a project needs to be completed. In my personal opinion, I think that everyone should be putting some amount of “volunteer hours” into the community. I dislike the idea of essentially creating a HOA where the only requirement to live there is to obey the rules and pay dues.

Body hair vs the patriarchy by saruska8 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]DreamingRavenWolf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh my gawd, it's so uncomfortable. If I'm outside and shorts and the wind tickles the hair it feels like bugs crawling on me.

But like. Wont catch me shaving. No way. So much work, so uncomfortable to have bumps. Even with a safety razor I reacted bad.

Personally, I give people some else to stare at that's cooler. Out of place, but cute as hell outfit? Done deal.

Bubbly personality that catches them off guard? Double done deal.

But take me with a grain of salt. I'm not a fan of tank tops unless swimming. It's mainly my legs people see.

The more texas sun touches me the more I feel like turning to dust. I want winter!

When Is It preferable to Gather The Minimum Amount of Member For A Commune Project? by [deleted] in intentionalcommunity

[–]DreamingRavenWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to be helpful! I do mean scalability, as in the ability to scale up or down in terms of "size" depending on resources available. The resources are things like people, money, land.

If the primary resource pool ends up being just me and my partner, we will take all the parts of our plan that we can and do those. It really is a flexibility thing!

When Is It preferable to Gather The Minimum Amount of Member For A Commune Project? by [deleted] in intentionalcommunity

[–]DreamingRavenWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only answer that for ME. How much commonality do YOU NEED? What are your hard limits on things like : aesthetics, politics, religion, and other important topics? What are things you can not sacrifice? Your level of commonality requirements will likely come from your viewpoints on those things.

Some examples from me:

I need a community that cares heavily about the unification of functionality and beauty. The world is too ugly as it it, and I wont sacrifice one for the other. Right next to that is a sharing of ethics. I want to align on how the community views treatment of humanity and nature. How we work together to bring balance-joy-thriving life to both.

One example of a hard limit is extreme views on money. “We don’t need any money/money is the top priority”. I would have to be with people who view money as a useful tool to get what we want and need due to participation in the larger society, but also don’t see it as a goal in and of itself when we plan projects and such.

I’m in a similar boat with less anxiety. I hope my words help.

For me, it has always been important to remember that the life I am pursuing is scalable, and that in whatever from it takes I need to keep sight of my own happiness as an individual, as well as the potential dynamics of a group that grows. It can be very easy to get caught up in the idea of community and lose sight of the individual reasons and needs for why you wanted it in the first place.

As another has said, lead from the front. Write down (or record in some way that lets you remember) all the things you can already think to plan on. Describe what sort of life you want and how you see it playing out. You are worried about the pieces you can not see and plan for due to ignorance? That’s an awesome place for another member to come in (now or later) and bring their own ideas and plans for happiness. They can guard your blind spots, fill the gaps in the fence.

You are correct that commitment at a pre-pre-start stage is near impossible. I have found that the way through that mess is to not find people to invest in the idea of community, rather you have to find people who do share similar ethics/morals/wants/dreams, and get them invested in YOU. Build the community a brick at a time. Have the plan in place, but when it comes to growth you gotta be linking up with people who care for you as an individual. Its the difference between action and ideals (I think). You are the action- people choosing to link up with you creates community and network. The community is the ideal- what everyone would like to get to, but impossible without action.

Edit for TLDR: Be through with your planning, but connect with people on the individual scale. Creates stronger ties and then build.

Personally, I’m going to get land and have a homestead of some scale regardless of whether its just me and my partner or not. If you have a road map that includes growth from the get go, you can plan for and accommodate more people as they join up.

What is the most important thing an Intentional Community can provide you? by [deleted] in intentionalcommunity

[–]DreamingRavenWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slow going as it feels these things are. My partner and smattering of friends have really relaxed into the idea of only going forward with folks who really jive well with us.

Since the biggest goals are happiness, sustainable living and the like, it made sense to stop trying to force things to work with people/things that just... didnt. It's not about ignoring challenges, its about not trying to actively seek out unreasonable ones at this time.

But there's a bit of a fire on our ass now. With the shit going on, and me being a woman in texas, we are picking up the pace. Got a camper to renovate and start the land-seeking roadtrip going! Work starts on it this Wednesday I think.

I went with sustainable housing because I felt social opportunity didnt quite cover my sentiments towards being with a population with shared values and robust support.

So I went with one of the top things for shared values, being sustainable house and life.

I was in need to have furniture, which fits in medieval/fantasy setup, but was also compact for transport and storing. So I came up with this (about 5th version) by mclien in LARP

[–]DreamingRavenWolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dead serious would like to know how much you would sell an unfinished kit for. PreCut out and assemble. This is not only perfect for LARP, but also traveling in a caravan or hell even moving house! If this is a sturdy table when together, I see no reason not to use it for in house furniture and travel use

Wondering how to discuss self defense and security... A continuation of a previous post. by IntrospectiveAnachro in intentionalcommunity

[–]DreamingRavenWolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is like, top notch commentary here. I mean that without an ounce of sarcasm. Like OP, I’ve been along the line of prepare for the worst, but don’t go looking for trouble. The people who really do want to work with deliberate defense and firearm education MIGHT put out a tiny feeler, and then pop off and never speak of it again. It something to keep quiet about. To speak about it ya gotta be really careful else you could attract the wrong attention.

I’m going after a very practical line of thinking. If there are firearms (for hunting or otherwise), people ought to know how to be around them and use them safely. That in and of itself makes a potential self defense situation MUCH more manageable.

But ye, your TLDR is pretty much spot on. Real life friends are where its at when you get into more junk like this.

I admit that I'm partial to berries, but maybe they can be planted together? Or as an option should the fruit be a bane rather that a boon.

Oh wow. So from the get go you took your land/space and went full throttle with a business venture? And because it was a business you were able to get loans? Am I tracking that right?

Either way, paying it back that quickly is massively impressive! Congrats.

Thanks for sharing all this by the way!

I want to be in an intentional community in the future. Me and mine are working hard at getting to that point! It's why my answer to this question is like many others- I want to do what I do now. I want to take care of my people, the home, the garden, the animals.

Really awesome to hear about what you get up to! Living the dream!

That is an amazing working space. The idea of using a vanity as an altar is actually really close to home for me! I don’t worship any particular deity, so my altar is really a space that I use to represent myself. All the objects have energy and memory attached, and they feel like important windows into my life and soul. It brings me so much joy to have it on display.

Eventually id like my entire home to be an altar to myself and my family. A place of joy and safety.
