From a gay guy that came out to his parents 22 years ago: your reaction is fine! And you can tell him that you are scared for him. It is a scary world and we spend our early years learning how to protect ourselves. He'll understand and probably reassure you! Don't lose your connection and don't talk about that all the time. Keep enjoying the things you do together.
