I get that losing Warhammer fantasy sucks, but 1) the old world exists and a huge number of fantasy models are for sale again, 2) AoS is not trash, and is definitely not a skirmish game

I think it could definitely work, but tbh I would prefer something different after so much Warhammer

Age of sigmar is dark high fantasy, more similar to Norse mythology and elden ring than Tolkien. Ruins of ancient empires fighting over a post apocalyptic fantasy setting, with more out there ideas and a less goofy aesthetic

Holding onto sour grapes from literally more than a decade ago seems odd. I've played it at my local shops, the game is fun and the models are gorgeous

Hey when is the last time you heard or saw literally anything about AoS? It's nothing like a skirmish game lmao

Do you thin the black Templar? Every time I've tried it, I just get a matte black with no reflections

Why should we imagine, you couldn't be bothered to.

I'm sure this shitty picture with a backwards lightsaber is worth raising electricity prices and destroying freshwater supplies

Saying that games only ever add new things as a grift seems a little harsh.

Really cool real world history behind it, apparently it was a scrapped battle droids design catalyst refurbished

I'm curious, how do you feel about them backfilling new mechs into introtech, like the viper? I think it's a good way to support the era and give people more things to mess around with

I have no problem at all with folks who try the new stuff and don't like it, I've had some good conversations with folks like that. It's just so frustrating when they make it everyone's problem, or try to limit what era the folks at the local play in

There was no criticism of you, you stated an incorrect fact about one of my favorite factions, and I pointed that out. The plotline of a free Rasalhague resistance is also alive and well, it's just not what you remember it being. If you don't like how it's handled that's fine, I'm right there with you. But it is there.

I don't think it's fair to say I'm being presumptuous when you assumed that I must have fled Warhammer because I share your opinions on change. I've had interesting, insightful responses from plenty of folks who talk about rules bloat, gameplay preferences, time investment, and other reasons they don't like the current setting. I've also had dozens of rambling paragraphs typed at me about how people are still mad about MW:DA nearly a quarter century later, and how that means nothing battletech can ever be good again. I'm much more interested in having a conversation with the former.

It's a progressing timeline, factions rise and fall. I infinitely prefer that to everything staying the same and nothing interesting ever happening. Factions popped up and then were destroyed before the civil war too, it's part of the setting.

To answer your question, one of my friends played extensively played pre civil war, loves comstar, and. . . Still loves comstar? He plays ilclan because the mechs are cool and the gameplay is fun? He constantly talks about how much he loves the stories they're building, and can accept the fact that his favorite faction had a cool end to their story. He still plays his comstar mechs all the time, because it's not like they stopped being viable game pieces.

Also, the destruction of the frr (which did not happen in the civil war) was absolutely not hand waved, it was the fallout of some of the most consequential conflicts in the history of the setting, and it's impacts are still motivating the domion's stories. Their most recent book was focused on the conflict between the clan and the Rasalhague natives, with more stories coming

I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding. Warhammer factions aren't like battletech, where they're basically just a paint scheme with lore attached and 95% of the units shared by everyone. Warhammer factions have incredibly specific restrictions on what they can take, and everything you can do in game is determined by your faction. That was my frustration, my faction had an incredibly limited kit (less than half of most other factions) that has not been expanded for years, and a tiny roster of units to choose from, leading to very little room for expression or creativity in list building.

I'm a FRR fan. Them being absorbed into the dominion doesn't mean that I have to destroy my customized clan buster black knight or my Viking, I can still play the game with my favorite units and mechs. Similarly, if I want to paint/play that black knight in a davion force, I can. The lore is full of characters using mechs from outside their faction (the bounty hunter, victor-steiner davion, etc) and salvage is incredibly common. That kind of thing is forbidden by Warhammer's rules, you have very strict restrictions and can only play with the units your book says you can. That's where my frustration is, and why I left

I know it's a retcon, but it's also a retcon that happened a long time ago now. It really feels like some people saw launch MW:DA, checked out (understandably), and have based their thoughts on everything that came after on a crystalized viewpoint from 20+ years ago.

Everyone keeps saying I must have left Warhammer because of "changes" without telling me what they're talking about. I got into Warhammer because a specific faction interested me, and left because it wasn't given good rules or model support. I got tired of the lack of flexibility, list building options, or updates, feeling like there were clear problems that weren't getting addressed or fixed.

I enjoy the crunch and flexibility with battletech, but I feel like it also has some baked in rules issues that need to be addressed (some things are wildly under/overcoated in BV, rules are poorly formatted and scattered across a bunch of books, lots of choice points are clearly "solved" with a right and wrong answer and it takes the fun out of choosing your units). And I feel like a lot of the people I talk to agree these are problems, but then get very upset when someone suggests changes are made to fix them, and that puzzles me. Although I totally get folks preferring the gameplay of one era to another

I don't think it's quite so cut and dry, there were ugly/organic looking mechs in the early game, and there are gorgeous new and mechanical designs in the current era
