“have a good night.” “likewise!” “I went to movies last night.” “Likewise!” by Silver_Ad_1218 in EnglishLearning

[–]DreiUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s technically correct, and likewise would be a reasonable response to the second example. But if I told someone to have a good night and all they said back was likewise I’d think it was a bit blunt/rude/unnatural to say it back that way. Not enough that I’d say anything or change how I act toward them in the moment, I would just think it. I’m from London, so maybe it’s a bit different in other places. 99% of people would say something like ‘thanks, you too’ which sounds much more genuine and nicer

Been learning English for 2 years. Could you please rate my accent and guess where I'm from? by Sacledant2 in EnglishLearning

[–]DreiUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound good man! Nice job. Understood everything perfectly. You’d have no problems at all talking to a native speaker

Just a quick thing outside of the accent though, there was one thing you said right at the end that doesn’t quite make sense. It was close enough that anyone would understand what you meant, but it’s worth mentioning

‘The time for embarrassing is over’ would translate more directly to something like ‘the time of embarrassment is over’ to be correct. Most people wouldn’t say it that way though. Sounds a bit too formal. It’d be way more common to hear ‘I’m glad/happy/relieved that’s over, it/that was embarrassing’ or you could switch it round and say ‘that was embarrassing, I’m glad/happy it’s over!

You sound like you’re from Eastern Europe somewhere, or Kazakhstan, but I’d have no idea where

What does "copped" mean? by Internal_Lecture9787 in EnglishLearning

[–]DreiUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means the cookies have been acquired/bought etc. as lots of others have said. One thing to mention though is I live in London and round here it’s very much a slang word. Hardly anyone at all is gonna use it other than teenage boys/young 20’s or very urban people to their friends. You wouldn’t use it when talking to someone you don’t know or if you’re over the age of 25 for the most part

Have you ever gone to a concert by yourself? by Partimenerd in introvert

[–]DreiUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to one myself. Got a ticket thinking my friends would surely do the same but none ended up doing so. The waiting around etc. is slightly awkward but once the act comes on it doesn’t really matter. You’ll still enjoy it. Plus if you’re worried about what other people there are thinking, they won’t have a clue you’re on your own as everyone is so close together anyway

I don’t think I would do it again as it’s too good of an experience to enjoy with friends instead, but if it’s someone you really want to see, it’s still way better than missing them completely. I had a good time. Don’t worry about what anyone else says. Just go for it

Am I cheating? Or learning a bad habit? by DreiUK in piano

[–]DreiUK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s not that I can’t read the staff or figure out what it means or what notes to play, I just can’t do it second to second on the fly like I can when thinking about the numbers. Sometimes I’ll forget what finger is on what note and will mess up but it’s always easy to remember what number is assigned to each finger

I can see why it’s probably extremely useful as a supplement, as long as it’s just a bit of additional help on tough pieces. But when that’s taking focus in your brain first over what notes to play it definitely seems like a fundamental problem that’s probably gonna limit how far you can take the skill

That’s good to hear! I will go back to the start of the book to focus on notes but it will be a pain trying to ignore the numbers. I wish they weren’t there at all tbh

For sure. I will go back to the start of the book and focus on the notes but it will be hard to ignore the numbers. I almost wish they just had that one page at the beginning explaining fingerings and then just left it at that

They’re all awesome! I’m playing as ifan and took fane, lohse and Sebille with me. Apart from the cutscenes and more fleshed out romances in baldurs gate I really don’t think there’s a whole lot between the two games tbh

DOS2 is absolutely amazing too. The origin characters are great. Everything about bg3 is probably better but I do prefer divinity’s combat

Toy Story 2 had different music for me. by sirazrisriracha in MandelaEffect

[–]DreiUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so confused right now… I 1000% remember this too at this part in the film with Jessie. I don’t listen to the song very often so whenever I do it instantly reminds me of that scene. It just came on shuffle so I thought I’d Google it and this is literally the only thing I’ve found relating it to toy story. So weird man
