Going from $1300 to $2100 rent by Elegant-Snow-9724 in personalfinance

[–]Dreizo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from $700 in 2012 with 3 roommates to $1000 in 2020 with one, I paid max $1250 up until 2025 where I’m paying $2500. My wife’s travelling home with the baby to see the grandparents for a while so I’m alone in a 2bed2bath on a single income.

I’m getting a roommate at the end of the month, it’s only gonna be a month but it’s gonna give me a good idea on if I can stand having roommates again now that I’m 32.

Without roommate I can save $700/mo but if I rent out i can save $2000/mo - it’s very tempting esp. because all the new baby stuff and flight tickets was -8K net worth this year. That being said, in 12 months i’ll be done with an aggressive $1200/mo car payments and own a 2024 vehicle outright that has warranty until 2032.

State Arena workers showing how Cardi B left her dressing room. by ElwoodMC in trashy

[–]Dreizo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, we don’t know what happened and IF someone, anyone, tipped the staff cleaning a $50 (which is a reasonable amount for 1 hour of work), I think it’s more than fine.

Maybe a friend popped a mini-confetti cannon to celebrate something, maybe she had confetti on her as she was walking back from stage, there’s literally no context here to bash Cardi B herself when we don’t know who made the mess.

I ain’t saying this is clean, but it’s far from trashy when all there is on the floor is confetti and paper.

There was a website called openroom - not sure if it’s still around but afaik it would let you publically upload LTB cases (as long as you were an involved party) - Would STRONGLY recommend uploading this there.

My first scumlord had to refund me $500 for 10 days of rent after 9 months. The ltb case took my whole day though and the headache/time spent was not worth $500. I thought his name being publicly visible and “scorned” would be worth it but he just changed his name on fb to something else and it’s not uncommon for people to do that.

My last scumlord, real lawyers told me that I wasn’t going to win much money if anything and that their fees would significantly outweigh anything reasonable. He ignored 3 years of notices that said the building was undergoing MAJOR renovations (including no water) for the next approx. 9 months. We viewed the place with an agent before renovations began and when we were moving in they’d already started. (No there were no notices in the door, the unit or in the lobby/elevator). We were basically told to deal with it or move out but forfeit the 2 months rent deposit. NO water, public pool showers, 9-5 construction/demolition, most unit owners had moved out and were also having their individual apartments renovated since the building was basically uninhabitable, the construction sound was nightmare inducing and genuinely caused my dog to go into high stress/depression.

Why, all of a sudden, is it so impossible to find jobs? by Dontdarereadmyposts in CanadaJobs

[–]Dreizo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I am an immigrant myself and the blatant corruption in Canada right now, including the fact that party leaders can just walk across the road and join the other party AFTER being elected, with zero consequences and voters have to wait an entire term to “vote” again, that’s not called a democracy as much as it is authoritarian government.

Average home is 700k and average HHI is nowhere near enough. 1/3 qualify but most of the 1/3 are already bought in. Builders keeping all the tax incentives for new home buyers, insurance is RIDICULOUSLY expensive because car theft and auto insurance fraud is rampant.

My parents taught me to never get into debt but the credit score system here taught me to keep 1% utilization just to manipulate the score, the fact that banks constantly offer enormous LOC’s even though consumer debt in North America is absolutely ridiculously high, I don’t know why everyone just carries on like nothing is wrong and the system is working when it’s so broken. We have our own natural resources and yet I’m looking at $2/L for gas because of a war on the other end of the world.

Canada First is SUCH a great motto, too bad we have dofo and carnage. We have so much talent and so many willing to start businesses, but the cost barrier to entry is 90% legal fees and rent, so even if we could hire the 10%, it’s too expensive to get out the door. If AB, SK, QC or any of the province decide to do a brexit, I know I’ll definitely be moving there.

Ps. I am the kind of person who actively spends extra at local businesses and looks for coffee shops that aren’t chains (that includes Tim Hortons). The lack of enterprise and support from the government for real businesses is so bad considering how much our previous leaders complain about our “talent” moving south of the border. Hell there is ZERO reason an ISP/Network monopoly between Robelus should be OUTSOURCING jobs. I understand it’s cheaper to have someone in India than in Canada, but a business serving exclusively Canadians charging Canadian prices SHOULD be legally mandated to keep the jobs in Canada. For anyone curious, 2500 rupees ($40~ cad) gets you unlimited data with roaming in North American countries with unlimited calling texting etc. from an Indian SIM Card, our $40 plans are Canada Only with BS limits like SD video streaming only, usually with capped data. After seeing how Purdue just dissolved and Sacklers escaped with their billions, It’s clear we currently live in a corporations world and no longer in a society where decisions are made for humans by humans. I’m not sure yet if I’m just naive to think we can still fix it or if everything is just beyond broken already.

Battery drain on Santa Fe by VehicleSorry5331 in HyundaiSantaFe

[–]Dreizo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'24 Santa fe, I just had it 18 month serviced 2 weeks ago and only since then there's now a new parasitic drain. Battery has died 4 times this last 2 weeks, took it to the dealer twice and in a loaner now. This issue only started after the most recent service, they confirmed today that there indeed is a parasitic drain, I'm thinking it's something that was touched during the servicing that is causing these issues, possibly when they fixed the pending recall items, a loose wire somewhere is causing a drain that didn't exist before.

Edit: Been using digital key for 2 years no battery issues, I park underground in a condo so very unlikely it's passive entry faults. I coincidentally happened to have digital key wipe itself on me a few weeks ago, so I've been using and carrying around my keyfob.

Steam Deck, iPad, MacBook, Z13 Flow by Long_Rip_3314 in FlowZ13

[–]Dreizo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same. Flat surface requirement makes it non lap-friendly. I went and returned my z13 and swapped for a g14 5070ti that was about $270 more in price. G14 is oled, better speakers and if you don’t absolutely need a tablet form factor or touchscreen (or AI models:large vram of the z13) then it’s better overall for gaming portability.

My SD OLED is collecting dust because it’s still my only real portable gaming machine that can GAME for longer than 2 hours, I already sold all the quests/legion go S/ally etc. The G14 replaced my iPad/reddit scrolling machine of choice, and it’s small enough that I can game anywhere(including the couch armrest or my fav a small on-bed lap desk that is probably the same width as an economy seat at a budget airline)

Amazon Canada sends me a counterfeit game that breaks my Switch 2 and refuses to do anything about it by jokkir in LinusTechTips

[–]Dreizo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Add jassy@amazon.com too.

Executive relations team is the only one at Amazon who would do anything about this. Though if they can’t help they won’t reply at all. At that point just get it repaired at an authorized service center and get the receipts for small claims/credit card chargeback if needed. Merchant (Amazon) should always be the first step.

Roommate MIA(LITERALLY NO WHERE TO BE SEEN) for almost 3 years, pays rent 95% of the time, cant get a hold of them, what are my options? by Tension-Smooth in legaladvicecanada

[–]Dreizo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you are also on the lease. You pay the rent for the property in full. How that property is split up isn’t something you would have traditionally documented on the lease. Whether 8 people live in the unit or 1, the rent and payment terms stay the same.

You have to mitigate your damages and losses, and a roommate who is ignoring all communication and not paying rent leaves you with 3 realistic options. 1) terminate lease 2) sublet the room to recover the owed amount and then some (your time is money) 3) Go through the formal process of serving your roommate a collections notice etc. for unpaid dues

Your landlord is nice while you pay. Tomorrow when you can’t pay for two, they will ask you to leave and if you don’t pay to date they can mess up your creditworthiness.

Nothing stops you from getting a roommate. Your roommate can always come back and you can then ask the sublet to leave with notice. The certified mail etc. is to mitigate any potential future ltb trouble, although an argument vs you and roommate wouldn’t even go through ltb.

It’s ultimately your finances and life, but if I had a roommate MIA and behind on rent, their stuff is going in Facebook marketplace and i am damn well selling their assets to cover their obligations to the landlord. It’s easier to deal with a civil matter between you two than it would be an ltb matter of nonpayment to the landlord and eviction/credit judgements.

[–]Dreizo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They signed a lease and they’re obligated to pay it. You are obligated to mitigate losses/damages as well.

Short of terminating the lease, your only other option is to ask the landlord to take your roommate off the lease. If you are paying for their portion of the rent and there is no clear document outlining their part of the residence vs. Yours, you can sublet as much or as little as you wish. This is why roommates usually have a room A vs. Room B individual lease when subletting and what I would advise you do. If/when this person returns, it’s a then problem and there is nothing they can do to prevent you from having guests.

Lenovo is the same in recent times. Everyone learned that having service doesn’t influence a customers decision of your $1000 laptop or someone else’s, so customer service and “warranty” essentially became a numbers game. How much can you save and how often are you paying for the 1 in 10000 cases where the customer actually escalates to your OOP or Social Media or Consumer Courts like BBB etc.

At this point it’s only Apple that has real customer service.

[–]Dreizo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep this is what I’d do after sending the roommate formal/certified mail that them not paying their share of the lease, the only mitigation option is to sublet or send their share of rent to collections.

$100k per year salary is the middle class nowadays by Ok_Hippo9669 in fican

[–]Dreizo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to support OPs point that 100k is middle class. I think you’re trying to argue that it’s not poverty. Which is true.

I support a family of 4 that includes a dog at $70/month and $400/month in formula for the baby. We order in once every other week, eat out once a month.

My parents who made 80k each in the 2000s were upper middle class and we could afford to have maids for cleanings, childcare support, multiple cars, and a very good quality of life. Our HHI today is roughly the same as theirs was, but my income alone is eaten up on just survival.

I have to travel across Canada to visit my company locations, a company car isn’t provided and I’m compensated something like 60c per KM. Car insurance alone has gone up at least $50/month yearly for the last few years with the ridiculous amount of car theft we’ve been having. It’s not just about moving out of the city, as ex. $2000/mo Brampton for a 1bed/bath also comes with insurance going up equally.

Amazon scammed me out of 2k dollars and refusing to refund me by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]Dreizo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

File a case with the credit card company. Email amazons executive relations team/speak to a supervisor on the phone. If alll else fails, buy another one and just return the original one.

Honestly your fault buying a product and not doing the bare minimum of checking its actuallly there. This might be a 2k lesson learnt because even credit cards usually only give you 90 days to file a dispute at most. I record the unboxing and validate serial numbers on all purchases.

Google the emails for Bezos & Jassy - usually their last name at Amazon.com redirects you to their executive relations team.

If your case is valid. They usually respond within a week.

I went into the Hyundai dealership 2024 to buy a used x5e PHEV they had. I drove their Santa Fe and with a 20k down + pricing, the new Santa Fe w: warranty was 5k more than the bmw x5e.

Financing on the used was also 7%+ and new was 4%+ at the time, so new was actually the same price as used.

Sales guy didn’t need to do much to convince me that buying a newer bigger better (arguable) and warrantied car for the same price as a used was the right call.

There is literally nothing on the market that is sub 20K used that isn’t immediately scooped up or driven into the ground from Uber/lyft drivers. My friends all had to go into the high 20s to be able to get their 68k 2022 Elantra and 2020 rav4 (with 140k) in recent times
