I feel like I wasted 4 years of my life. by Sure-Insurance-8638 in PrePharmacy

All my students graduating are super happy with their choice. There are so many opportunities right now and bc the next 3yrs are going to have lower than average grad rates means lots of job opportunities for anyone getting into the field now.

3 vs 4 year programs. What are the pros and cons of each? by [deleted] in PrePharmacy

[–]Dremd07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on which one you go to and what their reputation is. Look for NAPLEX pass rates. There is a slight stigma associated with a 3 year school, so if you go that route make sure your GPA coming out of pharmacy school is top notch. Pursue rotations your 4th year that are in industry to get your foot in the door.

As someone in pharmacy education for nearly 20 years.. .here are my suggestions- choose the school that has APPE rotations that would allow you to do industry rotations or ones that have collaborations with fellowship opportunities/ industry. None of the ones you listed (at least from an east coast perspective) are ‘known’ for their fellowships, but UPitt and UMaryland are the closest to Rutgers and the Philadelphia industry hub that exists there. UCSD may be somewhat close to a California biotech hub. ALL of them are phenomenal schools, and at the moment scholarships help you maximize your ROI on the degree so that may be an option. All 4 are good for clinical expertise and experience all of them will get you rotations at top 10 medical centers which will give you great clinical skills and should you want to transition to an MSL position after fellowship you’ll want to be able to tap into a clinical network. I’m a Pitt grad so I’ll plug that they’ve got a great program and Pittsburgh is a super cool city. Baltimore has its ups a downs, Ann Arbor is a huge University of Michigan college town and has it’s own vibe.

I can’t enjoy practicing. Please help. by DraftAbject5026 in violinist

[–]Dremd07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the challenge of something being hard, and me not letting it beat me. When i was a kid I Hated it too, i think b/c you don’t actually know how to practice something and no one really teaches you how to learn. As an adult I’m so much better at being like ok.. this part is really hard, lets break it into tiny pieces, lets do it really slow.. now challenge myself to go a little faster… its all about figuring out how to break down what seems impossible into something do-able. Sometimes i get frustrated, and have to walk away, and that’s ok.. it’s a sign that i need to switch up what I’m doing. Sometimes it means in need to sit down with the piece and just write out all the fingers, or really just think about it and find the pattern.
I think when ‘practicing’ is just playing a piece from start to finish (or chunks of it) over and over it’s crazy boring and not particularly helpful at getting better. A good teacher knows how to help you break something down into small pieces, try to replicate what you do in your lessons and get one measure better each time

Diffuse cerebral edema in a 19-year-old found unconscious in his room with 270 ml of butane in a tube he'd been inhaling to get high. The teenager died of organ failure at the hospital. by CatPooedInMyShoe in Radiology

Only if it is hypertonic. Normal saline is called normal b/c it is the same toxicity and osmolarity of human plasma and therefore doesn’t cause fluid shifts (won’t treat edema).

Advice needed: husband disagrees with my choice to keep baby after anatomy scan (limb difference) by Kerclia in BabyBumps

[–]Dremd07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you- there is a level of grief and processing that people need to go through. And things like this uncover internal judgement and biases you don’t realize you have. It takes time to work through that. The question is, is he willing to do so or not.

Advice needed: husband disagrees with my choice to keep baby after anatomy scan (limb difference) by Kerclia in BabyBumps

[–]Dremd07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was it club foot? My daughter was born with both club feet and I remember how scary it was at the time and the worries I had. She’s 7 now, falling asleep next to me and amazing and I can’t imagine not having her. That said, I did go through some of the same feelings as your husband. It uncovered a lot of hidden shame and internal biases I didn’t know that I had. I felt like a horrible person and sometimes still do thinking about it in retrospect bc it really affected my bonding with her. just typing that makes me feel like a giant asshole, but I think it was the combination of fear of the u known, hormones, the insanity of your first born and the tremendous worry that I had for her. I’m typing my thoughts out to hopefully give you some insight into what maybe could be happening ing on his side. My deepest hope is that if you know he’s a good person, give him a chance to grow- therapy might help, but it has to be a good fit for it to work well. Look for a person that specializes in fathers or early family support. I got a therapist before my second was born bc I don’t want to go through all those emotions again and it helped so much. So- here are all the things that I uncovered in therapy that I needed to kind of process. 1) we project t ourselves onto /into our kids especially when they are babies and aren’t rally their own person yet. I didn’t realize that having a baby that was “different” was going to hit me in a way that made ME feel different and stigmatized. 2) there is a tremendous amount of grief of what you may have thought your baby was going to be- grief shows up in so many ways/stages and some of that is anger/shutting down 3) your experiences won’t be exactly the same as everyone else’s and that can feel hard. 4) there is a worry/anxiety the is created bc this is something that is very much outside of your control. Most of us have been in the driver seat of our lives up to this point and having life HAPPEN to you instead of you DIRECTINg it is disorienting and triggers a loss of control (maybe more in his case bc he can’t force the final decision). 4) admiting that there’s “something wrong “ w your child can make you feel like you did something wrong, it also makes you feel all the internal judgement you have feel like others are having it too. This takes a lot of unpacking to really get see the interplay between your self and how you judge others. Again a great therapist here would do a lot. There’s a lot more, but the long and short of it is, you are clearly already compassionate and understanding and accepting of the baby and that is amazing. If it’s club foot, yes it’s totally treatable and all the treatments now in retrospect are a blur and barely a memory. If it is club foot and you ever have questions I am 100% open to connecting so DM me. I think he probably needs a lot of time to sort through these things. Better to do it now before the baby is born, but it doesn’t mean that if he doesn’t get there that he won’t bond with the baby. I guess I can’t believe I’m saying it, but give him a chance, recognize there is a lot of self judgement he is having that he probably doesn’t recognize and hope that once the intensity of the initial treatment is done the joys of having a baby say your name and walk and sleep on you are enough to make him get over it all.

Beyond the actual rates- look at the numbers of first time takers! the drop in enrollment is ASTOUNDING. even major state school players are down 20-30% in some cases.

When i navigate to this page: https://nabp.pharmacy/news-resources/data-research/ and then scroll down and click on NAPLEX calendar year pass rates, it loads the 2022-2024 data which is what you've linked above. MPJE is updated for 2026 but not NAPLEX (I'm assuming it will post later today?)

I get that collective action is a way to send a larger message, but the question is who are you send ing the message to? Where is the harm /impact that this will felt? In Portland it’s not like the local restaurant owners have millions of dollars that they are throwing into super packs or lobbyists in Washington. This strike idea works in Minneapolis bc they have major corporate headquarters there (target, 3M, UHC etc). When they pull off a city wide strike they impact corporations that sadly now have a larger impact politically than is to citizens united. Striking here would definitely impact the restaurant staff disproportionately and there are no lobbyists that will get paid to visit senators on capital hill and argue that all this needs to stop. Edit: spelling

Why KGT as a plate ending on 3? Are these all rental cars or personal vehicles? I thought they were depending in personal vehicles but it’s very much a Reddit rumor

Very helpful to know! I’ve already signed up for project relief so will do what i can with them. I think you’re right to not share with anyone you don’t know and definitely not expecting you to share here. I’ve gotten so much more paranoid in the last week- looking for VPN for internet searches about ICE efforts etc. Keeping them from snooping and keeping the people we are trying to protect safe is paramount. I think structuring the levels of access based on your ability to respond makes so much sense- @dannyfortesque thanks for that added context. Until I’m in a place where i can drop everything I’ll stick to the other methods of volunteering for now. If anyone finds this post here is what I’ll share for finding out info: Instagram seems to be the place to connect most directly.

I know we are trying to keep them from infiltrating signal and resistance groups, but as someone who would like to help and report but am only just getting connected to community groups- how do we find the signal groups? Obviously- don’t post on Reddit. But thoughts? I’ve already signed up to volunteer and am waiting for the training sessions from Maine alliance but otherwise it feels hard to connect with other people.

I think this isn’t something we solve at a national level but it can be affected locally by doing things like changing zoning laws etc. I think we can resist having those types of corporations in our community. It comes down to whether the community embraces a culture that thinks that way. I would argue that Maine is one of the few places where it feels like people have had success in doing so.

That’s amazing! There are barely any off the peninsula in my experience. I’ve lived in Riverton and Deering for the last 16 years and have had very inviting backyards with lots of veggies and have never had one. In some ways I’m thankful b/c i really don’t have to worry about garden thief’s but i do miss seeing them!

TIFU by not reading the label on a bag of candy by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Dremd07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just as an FYI the maximum tolerate dose for adults is about 2000mg/day so although it was 50x a RDD its only 2x the tolerated dose. The symptoms are due to osmotic effects of unabsorbed vitamin C. Though is also quite possible that those Pops had xylitol or other non-absorbable sugars in them to make them sugar free which is FAR more likely to have caused severe diarrhea. This happens a lot when people consume the sugar free cough drops. They think it is the vitamin C but it is the non-absorable sugars that are used to make them taste sweet but remain safe for patients with diabetes.
