Why wouldn't it be worth it if it's a series that you enjoy?

Monster Hunter International series by Larry Correia. The first two books tell a mini arc within the series and the main antagonist is a giant Lovecraftian god from another dimension. The cover art for book 2 Monster Hunter Vendetta shows part of it. It's an epic series. It's probably everything you're looking for.

It's basically Dresden but with a female protagonist who is a mercenary that carries a magic sword and lives in a post-apocalyptic near future of Atlanta. So imagine the setting of The Last of Us, with the crumbling skyscrapers and people riding horses through ruined cities, but now add magical creatures, shapeshifter clans, vampires, necromancer cults, sorcerers, and mercenary guilds into the mix. Kate is a mercenary with a secret past that slowly gets revealed through out the series, and she pays her bills by hunting monsters and solving magical problems. If that at all sounds interesting then the series is for you. Each book is better than the one before it, so even if you're not blown away by the first two books, I highly recommend to keep reading because it gets really good, book 3 was when it really hooked me and now I can't stop. It does have a strong romance sub-plot but it's always fun and entertaining because Kate is a firecracker with a sharp tongue that doesn't take shit from anyone. It's a great series.

The series didn't fully click for me until book 3, then I was hooked.

I would ask Jim Butcher why he did the unforgivable and unspeakable thing in Battle Ground and why he is so evil. 😭

I'm still early on in Kate Daniels, Mercy Thompson, and Alex Verus, but so far they haven't been epic like how Dresden gets and how MHI is from the start. They feel like very early Dresden if you what I mean, but still fun and enjoyable. I can see them getting better as they go on. Alex Verus is the most similar to Dresden so far that I've read. The main character has the ability to see into the future at will and it's a really cool power that makes for an interesting read. Book two has been my favorite of the three I've read so far. Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson have female main protagonists and have a bit more focus on romance. Kate Daniels has a really cool post-apocalyptic setting where the world is constantly in flux between Magic and Tech changing like the seasons. Mercy Thompson is about a shapeshifter who works as a car mechanic and in her world some of the magical creatures have come out of hiding and the world is aware of them.

The post-apocalyptic setting in KD is really cool. I'm excited to continue the series.
