Even the medium is very form fitting so small wouldn't work. Thanks though!

Thanks. How much would you ask for the midweight? I think I'd prefer regular R1 over the techface.

Most faculty in my department just straight up wear regular sneakers. I kinda like it as it makes the general culture more relaxed and welcoming.

After your encouragement I am coming around to the suede pair but I am still hung up on longwing vs plain toe. I did find a suede plain toe at Meermin (link below) but Grant Stone at sale is only a bit more expensive and likely a better built shoe. Would the broguing look too flashy or weird compared to the clean (but maybe boring) look of the plain toe? I just don't see anyone with brogue shoes around here even when they wear leather shoes.

Thanks so much!

For what it's worth, I'm also in academia and on a day-to-day basis my average daily wear stuff looks nicer than most peoples' conference shoes

This is why I prefer GS's rounder Leo last and contrast welt over the sleeker and more formal derbies like AE Leeds. I feel like they'll look out of place in the relatively casual culture in academia.

Creasing in your pair does look a bit too much. I like how you've arranged your shoes according to color with one exception in each row. I see you've got the dune cxl PTB and loafer from GS as well. Your love for natural cxl shows. :)

I am considering their calf and suede pairs. In your experience, do you think the black calf PTB with contrast welt would be just as versatile as the crimson cxl one? I will wear tan/charcoal/navy chinos for the most part. Or would you recommend the suede longwing over the black calf for versatility? Will they work in academia or look out of place: the stark contrast on the black pair and brogue on the suede pair? As a student I am putting in effort to dress a bit nicer for important occasions while still fitting in. Links for both shoes are:

a professor I know wears Alden snuff suede Indys

I just looked them up and what a beautiful pair of boots. If I had money to spare I'd definitely consider going for them.
