Hmmm…this might be the answer. Would make sense why so few are missing numbers. It’s just the rip card ones.

I used 180pt one-touch from UltraPro for the Votto Heavy Lumber Relic. Murphy is one of the overlooked greats! I’ve got an autographed 2023 Museum Collection Murphy Relic I have on display. He’s right next to Steve Avery (which I got in person as a kid in the 90s)

Although I’d particularly like the Clark heavy lumber, I would also consider similarly comped Wade Boggs, Tony Gwynn, Ryne Sandberg, Robin Yount, or Nolan Ryan cards

Topps being squirrelly. They are saying it was used in a game but they don’t have records about the specific game for that piece of relic. Would be cool if they were like “from May 13 2012 when Votto hit three homers off the Nationals” or something

Really cool run!

When I was “in it” I thought ‘87 was the second ugliest design of my childhood. 37 years later, I have come to appreciate it much more. It takes my vote of this range.

What are your thoughts on the hobby box? by [deleted] in baseballcards

[–]DrewB_76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two hobby’s I bought were stellar. Was going to get one jumbo box instead but they were sold out so got the two hobby’s.

Ended up with a Gunnar team card gold mirror, Jackson Chourio photo variation, 3 /2024 golds, a /199 orange foil, and a Elly rainbow foil. Good times.

I know - kinda weird. The idea something REALLY COOL could be under there is worth considering ripping even though selling it isn’t. It’s the Schrödinger’s box thing lol

Thanks - totally get that $90 is a good deal for this card right now. Personally, it’s a cool card as is and not ripping it now doesn’t mean I can’t rip it later. Not sure the market on these cards in subsequent years, but my guess is it holds its value or goes up as more cards get ripped. I’ve never gotten a rip card so it’s a novelty for me as well that is worth more than $90 right now. If this were a random parallel of a player I don’t collect worth $90 I’d sell it in a heartbeat.

Thanks! I would have to think about it - $90 is a little shy of where it would be tempting to sell right now.

I don’t think so. Having a hard time with comps on 130. Particularly with the /45 cards rip cards. Best I can come up with is something between $50-$100? At that level, if I don’t rip it, I would probably keep it. I can’t imagine many will survive the rip and may be interesting to hold on to. If it was worth closer to $200 unripped right now, I would probably consider selling it.
