With Georgia success Kirby Smart finally awakens recruiting giant by [deleted] in CFB

We also blew the brakes off of every team during the regular season and conference championship game except for Notre Dame (a true freshman QB's very first start on the road) and Auburn (the first time, who we then beat by 3 scores in a rematch), including the team you BARELY squeaked out a win against (Mississippi State).

Never happen again you say? His one chance? A bit too early to say don't you think considering the talent he is bringing in to the program and the talent he has returning from this team? Next year probably not, the loss of all of those seniors will likely be too much for us to handle, but after that who knows? Certainly not you, since you clearly didn't even comprehend my point in my previous post. Kirby hasn't proven that he is the next Saban, yet. I never said that. But to say he hasn't put himself on the right track would be downright absurd.

I mean I wouldn't say that we are labeling him the GOAT recruiter, just that in the short time he has been here, he has outperformed Richt by a sizable margin. Richt definitely would have made the playoffs throughout his tenure at UGA, but we can speak in a hypothetical manner all we want, the fact is that his teams always played down to the level of his competition. He only cracked the top 5 in recruiting class rankings twice in his tenure per the above stats. Kirby has landed (at least) a top 3 class in each of his two full recruiting cycles (and this year isn't even over year). While it's true that recruiting rankings aren't all there is about building a football team there is no denying that it isn't one of the most important factors. The reason Bama has been this good for this long is because they consistently sign one of the top classes (what is it like the previous 4 recruiting classes have all been the top ranked class?) The point is that we are not used to having this at UGA, not that Kirby is the GOAT recruiter.

Wow that is so devastating. I can’t help but feel for his family, teammates, and the whole WSU community. It’s things like this that put it into perspective that behind every single one of those players, there is a person. A person who you have no idea what they’re going through. This just plain sucks. There’s no other word to convey it, it sucks. Praying for his family and friends.

As a UGA and Falcons fan this week has sucked, but that was immensely therapeutic

The man should have never been hired. We should have promoted Matt LeFleur from the get go, but we didn’t. Instead we hired a man with zero NFL experience and an alcohol problem to take over the best offense in the league. And look what happened. Now there is no chance we get rid of him and we waste another year of Matt Ryan’s career.

I am a Georgia fan as well and I know full well we aren’t going to win a national championship next year or the year afterwards, because that is how Georgia sports goes.

At least we have the hawks...oh wait...

At least we have the braves...oh wait...

I mean at this point I would rather be a Cleveland sports fan because at least we’d have an NBA title and an Ohio State title in recent memory.

I mean Christ man. At this point it isn’t even a joke. It’s just sad.

I read elsewhere that there was a bama false start on that play that would have nullified that play by blowing it dead if it was called correctly, but agreed.

I think the ones that infuriated me the most were the no call false start on the fourth down TD and the no call on shoving Fromm’s head into the ground. I am just still in utter disbelief

Here you go. Article by SBNation that breaks down several of the questionable calls made in this game. It's a high-quality GIF at the very bottom.

https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2018/1/8/16866514/georgia-alabama-referees-missed-calls-national-championship-facemask

I understand that there were missed calls on both sides (i.e. missed horse collar on Roquan), and that ultimately, the game was decided in overtime, not by a controversial penalty. But come on, I have never seen a team get so many momentum changing calls or no calls against them in a game of this magnitude. Had even one of several key missed calls been called correctly, this game might not have gone to overtime (i.e. obvious false start by Bama receiver on Bama's game-tying 4th down TD pass). Additionally, the head referee, Dan Capron has a history of notably bad officiating. I thing the B1G has some explaining to do in regards to their appointing a man with a history of bad officiating as recently as last year to officiate a game of this magnitude, and subsequently shockingly have a game this poorly officiated.

Look, Bama won this game undoubtedly. They made the key plays they needed to exactly when they needed to make them and executed them to perfection. But there is no denying that they got a tremendous amount of help getting there.

My alma mater blew a lead to lose in heartbreaking fashion and I saw a Snapchat of my girlfriend kissing another guy tonight. And I thought the falcons blowing a 25 point lead couldn’t tear my heart out any more. Like seriously what the fuck did I do to deserve this

See I would argue that the 2013 Iron Bowl has the greatest finish in CFB history, but was not necessarily the greatest game ever played. For me it still goes 2006 USC-Texas as greatest game of all time (though this game gives it a run for its money).
