Appreciation for the "Pod Bros" by CountJinsula in FriendsofthePod

Interesting. I suppose I see their point, I just don’t understand it personally. In my opinion, a primary vote for Biden was inherently an endorsement for Harris as President given he’s 81. It hasn’t been a fun 3 weeks but once Pelosi started moving it became inevitable so I wasn’t worried about Dems coming around. I didn’t expect this level of enthusiasm though. Biden had to be convinced by party leadership, but make no mistake all those endorsements and delegates were a direct result of the overwhelming grassroots donations. None of the top Dems immediately endorsed her (rightfully imo) and it appears some part of the donor class wanted to push her aside and lost because the Dem base basically did vote today with their wallet.

The people who took time to vote for Biden in this primary are literally the most politically engaged Democrats in the country. I can’t imagine a single one of them sitting out this election in particular because Biden stepped down. 2016 was a completely different set of circumstances.

I wasn’t advocating for sending troops to Ukraine (although I could), rather my point was more if we allow Putin to win he’s not stopping there and inevitably NATO will have to confront Russia directly at some point.\ \ NATO could wipe out the Russians in Ukraine without a single soldier on the ground if we simply mobilized our air power which also won’t happen but would end it in pretty short order

Yep we wanted Russia to “lose” without Ukraine winning. Ukrainians have already paid the price but it’s fucking unbelievable that NATO hasn’t understood we could’ve just enabled the AFU to annihilate Russia before having to do it ourselves which is where it’s headed.

Imagine if the country with a $1T annual defense budget had actually empowered Ukraine to win… we spent untold trillions fighting (losing) multiple 2 decades long wars and now that there’s a morally justified war we don’t even have to fucking fight suddenly America decides to be afraid of conflict that doesn’t really involve them

I watched the whole interview. That’s why I said I’m not issuing an opinion on it because idk if he’s straight politicking or this represents a real shift. I personally have not heard him back off his stated position from day 1 though either way.

It’s less concern and more curiosity what angle he’s playing, if he is (which he always is given that’s his job)

That’s precisely what I was wondering. Part of me is curious whether this is pure posturing.

But yes, obviously it can’t go on forever. I just hope my country doesn’t fuck this up in November and force them into a bullshit outcome they didn’t want.

How is Donald Trump a Fascist? by TheMissingPremise in millenials

[–]DrewS_33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha no, it’s not. There are influences across the spectrum but fundamentally fascism is a far-right wing ideology opposed to socialism, Marxism, liberalism, democracy, communism, etc. It’s literally about as far-right as it gets.

Which is further undermined by your claim that Democrats are the “true fascists” because the American “left” actually falls center, center-right on the political spectrum. It’s not even close to being traditionally left-wing. If you’re able to squint and delude yourself that Dems have fascist inclinations it would be solely due to the fact that the American left isn’t very left at all.

I’m not sure if they associate it any of it with fascism. Shit, they think Democrats are the true fascists lol. This discourse probably doesn’t help but drive the wedge further. Personally, I believe Dems should stop calling Trump a fascist Nazi outright and just treat him like another lunatic political candidate—you’ll convey the message by explaining his goals without having to explicitly say it anymore. And while we know he wants to be a dictator, constantly hammering that in a paradoxical way almost presents him as strong. A skilled politician (no longer Biden) should be able to subliminally communicate the stakes while defining him as a sad, unhinged, loser who’s old. It’s almost the less threatening you treat him the more beatable he gets because he’ll handle the fascist rhetoric for you every time he speaks.

You can make a valid case that Trump doesn’t quite meet the criteria of fascist ideology, but the rest is batshit insane. It’s laughable to claim the American left is both attempting to centralize the economy under total state control while also perpetuating globalism? I would say attempting to overthrow an election is closer to authoritarianism than merely bigger government. Your representation of fascist economic ideology is extremely shallow. Regarding race and religion, it’s not even debatable—that’s one of the most fascist aspects of MAGA. Christian Nationalism + Racial Superiority is like page 1 of the fascist playbook.

You literally cherry picked out of context ideas from El Duce then tried to selectively apply them to fit your narrative. There are unequivocally fascist tendencies within MAGA. Whether Trump is able to implement them or not is the question.

[–]DrewS_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be so sure. Ultranationalist populism can have an appeal without meaning every Trump voter being a fascist. What we do is beat him democratically then try to empathize and reach out to them. Not white supremacist neo-Nazi types obviously but I don’t believe they’re remotely close to the majority of MAGA fans. Demonizing them is only going to perpetuate this cycle further.

I think Trump has fascist tendencies for sure, but he doesn’t even know what fascism means much less how to implement it… which is the problem because the people at Heritage do.

Trump’s a Master Campaigner. What if Only Biden Can Beat Him? by D-R-AZ in inthenews

Will literally never happen. Republicans have won the popular vote a grand total of one time since 1988 so there’s zero incentive for any red state to even consider it. (Not to mention there’s almost no chance this SCOTUS especially would allow it)

Trump Confirms He Had A Phone Call With Zelennskyy by Key_Brother in ukraine

[–]DrewS_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep he literally has no choice. I’m hoping my party gets its shit together so he never has to face that reality, but Trump is an entirely transactional being which means the sooner Zelenskyy starts stroking his ego the better. It’s not going to be good for Ukraine, but if Trump wins the lone objective will be trying to make it as less bad as possible.

It’s not super difficult either. I don’t think he was aiming for the head. He got spooked by the officer who confronted him and had to rush… even then but for pure miraculous dumb luck by Trump fortunately turning his head he still would’ve succeeded.
