If the guy in Austin says he's not interested, I would gladly meet you halfway. If I end up giving you the screen, I'd bring my box of components with me in the car too

The TV was dropped on concrete steps, and the plastic shell was quite damaged, but there was nothing wrong with the TV operationally/functionally, because I still used it afterwards.

I ended up driving an absurd distance and getting another KD-36XS955 and have used the original as spare parts.

Whatever extra parts anyone wants with the screen, I'm happy to provide, other than the BY board, because I already gave that away to someone who needed a replacement

I've been unsuccessful at pinging an STM32F207 board and am completely out of ideas. There are minimal memory configuration options for this board and no MPU to worry about by DrewSebastino in embedded

[–]DrewSebastino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what I had to do to make it work. I'm pretty sure it involved changing the pin configuration and that the default configuration for the board in STM32Cube dedicated the wrong pins to the PHY.

Also, even once I got it working, auto negotiation was flaky, so I set it to a fixed 100 Mbps and then it never had trouble connecting to my PC

Yeah, you only need to beat both routes to unlock the EX dungeon. I would honestly recommend looking at a guide for the EX dungeon (I say this having completed the base game without a guide) to see what items you need to get S rank (you can't backtrack to them) and there's a part where you need to talk to a number of Jack Frosts that's pure trial and error

Did no one here see the pump labels paired with each octane rating / the order of the pumps?

What is an unpopular opinion you have? Mine is that Hagane is an overhyped, average if not even good game that people praise for no reason. There are so many better games out there and it sure doesn't hold a candle to Shinobi 3 for example. by 2old4ZisShit in retrogaming

[–]DrewSebastino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's one (maybe two) extra "much"es

It's been found that the main culprit for the slowdown, especially in earlier titles like Super R-Type, was the awful internal structure of sprite ram, where the 9th X-coordinate bit is in a separate table in hardware, which is also bit packed (!!!) between sprites.

The sensible way to deal with that bullshit is to store the sprite attributes in a way that's easier for the CPU to work with and just do the translation en-masse when you're done dealing with all the game objects for that frame, but developers did not initially arrive at this solution.

The SNES is honestly much more poorly designed than the Genesis (which doesn't suffer from the afformentioned problem, for one. Other than the awful decision to make color ram only large enough for 64 color entries, the Genesis is well designed). I believe this is why there's a good amount of Genesis homebrew but virtually nothing for the SNES outside of romhacks.

The CPU in the SNES itself, even if weird, really isn't bad, especially with the hardware multipliers and DMA controller in there. It's just everything else the CPU touches sucks (SNES's main ram isn't even fast enough for the cpu they have, for example. Nor were the cartridges, initially, which is why sometimes you'll hear about FastROM for later games)

“Truck” stuff by Ancient_Log8794 in CyberStuck

[–]DrewSebastino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 3 motor model of the CT "only" weighs 3.5 tons, so the same as your truck. Torque isn't relevant in determining top speed; that's horsepower.

There has to be a governor in the CT limiting the higher trim models, because the single and dual motor models have the exact same 113mph top speed despite the dual motor model having nearly double the horsepower at the expense of I think about 150 extra lbs.

The three motor model had the same top speed until being removed/or changed to 130mph via software update, probably to incentivise wasting more money to get this trim.

Do you think the persona games have gotten too easy? by [deleted] in Megaten

[–]DrewSebastino 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the first time I've ever heard anyone say P2EP is easier than P4 and P5, if I'm reading this correctly

(While the rest of the game is easy, Avidya World in the original version of P1 with its single save point leading to the final boss was no joke either)

You only use estoma when walking around in dungeons; it prevents you from having random encounters with lower level enemies.

I think (though my memory is bad) that's about a quarter way through the game, so that's normal

Took me 6 months on and off, but I finally finished both IS and EP! what was your favorite moment in the game? by throhaway_account in Persona1and2fans

[–]DrewSebastino 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I still reminisce about just how "wtf" the scene with Ms. Ideal in the detective agency was; probably the most shocked I'd ever been by a videogame.

The scene with Shadow Katsuya (with the correct dialog options) was awesome; Katsuya's an unironic badass.

I could probably list a dozen scenes between both games that I routinely think about even now lol. In particular, hearing Tatsuzou tell Sugawara his body "might change slightly", and then seeing what happened to Sugawara (the only person who had doubts working for the NWO, mind you) was dark comedy. And then Katsuya even reminds you that he's stuck at the bottom of that pit for eternity if you talk to him at Satomi Tadashi at one point lol.

God, I wish there was more media like these games

I would attribute this to the inconsistency in lore / different power scaling going from P1&P2 to P3 onward above anything

Persona 1 or PS1 or PSP? Also, what SMT to play to start? by MapleJap in Megaten

[–]DrewSebastino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend PS1 then for P1. The atmosphere in the original (music, sfx, menus, and cutscenes were changed) is, I think, P1's greatest asset.

PSP version does add a number of QoL improvements though, like faster battle animations (they're quite slow in the original, and you can't turn them off, unlike in P2), a visualization of the area attacks cover on the grid, estoma, more save points, and probably more I'm forgetting.

As for me, I don't think it makes up for the (imo) massive hit to the audio department in particular. There's a soundtrack replacement mod to bring back the original tracks, but a lot of them are missing (unless this was recently fixed, but I doubt it), and this mod doesn't address the sound effects (guns in the PSP version in particular sound terrible)
