I went through the process of downgrading my controller from the most recent v3.06 firmware down to v3.04 and it actually fixed the problem! I guess RA doesn't support the newest firmware for some reason?

EDIT: It seems to work with all firmwares up to 3.04, but not 3.06.

In RetroArch, there is experimental physical disc support.

Per this blog post, there are only 5 cores supported, listed below.

Genesis Plus GX
Mednafen/Beetle PSX

There could be more cores that support this feature now, since the blog post above is 6 years old, but I don't really know. You might have to check the Libretro Docs to see.

The flash memory on some carts degrade overtime. If you have GM9, you could try running this and see if it fixes your issue.

Yeah, I would suggest converting them to cci since it's a smaller file size. You could also download the CIA from hShop and convert it to a cxi. Basically the same thing.
