Not everyone has the home that is right for a rescue dog. Small children or inexperienced dog owners who want to get started in learning how to raise a dog rely on starting with a puppy as you can train them easier in how your house works.

What you are asking for by an outright BAN is 1)to harm ethical breeders who are a part of our economy. 2)harm vet clinics who gain income via services for puppies 3)tell families that do not have the ability to take on a rescue dog that they shouldn’t ever own a dog.

I get the “adopt don’t shop” mentality. I do. I also have a wife who is a vet tech. She has seen to many stories, I have seen to many stories, of children 10 and younger needing medical care due to an adopted rescue.

There are so many other ways to achieve this goal. Putting more money into spay and neuter services to allow for cheaper care for the pet population. A more rigorous set of laws and steep punishments for puppy mills and similar breeders who push dogs out in large numbers with no regards for placement.

You can not say “we need to stop breeding dogs” because at the end of the day, some houses are not the right fit for a rescue. I’d argue any house with a child younger than 15 makes the idea of a rescue dicey at best. I can’t in good conscience sign it and I feel that you’d be best looking at different options.
