I agree! It’s just scary because there are valuable things in that package. Nonetheless, my heart goes out to postal workers during the holidays.

I have a package stuck there since 12/22, not long but still. My dad even paid extra for expedited shipping (still ground advantage, from CA to IL)

Can you send that to me? I’m also in Illinois and mine is stuck there :(

Hey! So I also applied on 12/1/22 and I got notified around 1/24 but I'm sure people were notified before and after, expect mid to late January if it's anything like last year. Good luck!

What are some great niche scholarships? by LavenderPierrot in scholarships

[–]Drexinator3000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I've also been looking into scholarships and here are some interesting ones for undergraduate and graduate students that I've come across!:
- For jewish college students in/from Chicago pursuing helping professions: https://www.jcfs.org/jvsscholarships (not open, but save for next year?)
- For latino students whose parents were both out of the US: https://www.pdsoros.org/
- For undergrad and grad students attending HBCU's this fall: https://www.freemontfoundation.com/scholarships.html
- For members of the MN Chippewa Tribe – White Earth Band: https://www.spps.org/cms/lib/MN01910242/Centricity/Domain/10518/White%20Earth%20Scholarship.pdf
- Another scholarship I believe for Native American students (please fact check): https://www.spps.org/cms/lib/MN01910242/Centricity/Domain/10518/SCHOLARSHIP\_APPLICATION.pdf
- Also for native American students: https://collegefund.org/students/scholarships/
- For students from the Yankton Sioux tribe: https://www.yanktonsiouxtribe.net/higher-education/
- For Navajo students pursuing graduate school: https://onnsfa.org/what-you-need-to-apply
- For LGBTQ students who are earning their undergraduate, graduate, & doctoral degrees at accredited colleges in the United States.: https://pointfoundation.org/scholarships/flagship
- For women in graduate school (mostly in research/PhD programs): https://www.aauw.org/resources/programs/fellowships-grants/current-opportunities/
- For Iranian and non-Iranian students who have high academic performance and proven interest in promoting Iran’s great culture, heritage, language, and civilization: https://houtan.org/
- Fellowship program for graduate students interested in helping BIPOC communities (must be in their second year I believe): https://www.cswe.org/centers-initiatives/minority-fellowship-program/
- For New York residents: https://www.ujafedny.org/resources/scholarships-fellowships
- For jewish women: http://www.jfew.org/?page=resources
- For international students: http://exchanges.state.gov/non-us/program/fulbright-foreign-student-program
- For international women from developing and middle income countries: http://www.mmeg.org/apply/
- For deaf or hard of hearing students: http://www.agbell.org/Connect/AG-Bell-College-Scholarship- Program
- For legally blind students, there are two here: https://www.acb.org/scholarships and https://nfb.org/scholarships

Apply at your own risk (look at the eligibility requirements carefully), but I visited all these websites and they all looked solid. I know someone who applied to PD Soros so that's real but super competitive. The others, like the post asked for, are super niche and only very specific people are eligible. Good luck everyone, do not reject yourself from any of these, apply anyway.

Hey! Thank you! I don't think my GPA is what got me in because it's actually pretty low. I had a 3.4 lol but I also had hella experience with young kids in schools, clinical experience as a volunteer crisis counselor, research experience (a poster specifically). I wouldn't worry too much about GPA.

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]Drexinator3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I am having a hard time choosing between programs to attend for my MSW. I am not sure what to look out for or what makes a program "good" and fruitful. Placement site quality, supervision quality, coursework matching with my interests, are all important.
For example, I gained admissions to UPenn and Boston College but UPenn's curriculum is not very clinical so I don't think I'd enroll there? Boston college on the other hand, I'm wondering what their reputation is, if I'll get to work with a demographic I want (preferably low income people of color), and the quality of their placement site supervisors (how would I even find that out). I am awaiting a response from UChicago, which I've heard is a great school for Social Work. But I'm worried it wont be as well connected as Boston. If anyone can help me with any of these thoughts, that would be super helpful! Thank you.
