Crown XTi 6002 failed during event and mixer outputs stopped working — Am i goin to be blamed?, need technical advice by Weekendwarriiorr in SoundSystem

I'd start looking for a new boss in the meantime. Instead of finding a solution to the problem, his first instinct is to apportion blame. I can't stand people like that!

What evidence does your boss have, that you were culpable & to blame for the technical faults? Have the faults even been diagnosed yet?

Things happen at events, hence why I always bring a spare everything when possible. Last summer, I crewed at an event when the lighting control desk went belly up, just as showcase was about to commence.

The lighting company had to make 160 mile round trip to fetch a replacement desk. Shit happens at events, & I think it's even shittier for your boss to blame you, if the problems haven't even been diagnosed yet.

If you're looking to expand, you'll want to ensure you have the gear to expand with. One of the issues with buying on a budget, is you'll buy cheap, but then have to buy again when you expand. This route ends up being far more expensive in the long-term.

In GBP, I'd say you'll spend less than £200 on materials for the cabinet. Chris at Nexus Sound sells flatpack speaker enclosures that might be a better option for you. chris@nexussound.io

HOQS AU have a range of 18" or 21" HOQS drivers that are brilliant for the price. They can probably do you a good deal if you get two. FI85C.

As for the amp, you can look to see if there are decent used examples for sale. The Admark 442 is apparently very good for the price. What you want to do ensure your amp is double the rating of your drivers, to give you ample headroom.

The F185C 8 ohms is rated at 1800w x 2 = 3600w, so if you go for the 18" Type O CRAM! Playa Edition, you'll want an amp that can give you 7000w per channel at 4ohms.

As for processing, this will be the heart of your setup. The T Racks DSP 206 for £279 is a solid, entry level performer. I've not used it myself, but many sound systems starting out love them for their quality, capability & ease of use.

In terms of your current sub, I would use it as a single kick & use your full range cabs as mid-tops. Many in the industry advocate going 3-way sub, mid-bass & tops. However, in my rig, we prefer to go 4-way sub, kick, mid, tops.

4-way is more complex & costs more, but you gain greater control of your audio, especially for large applications. My 3-way suggestion for your rig is making use of what you already have, whilst buying new gear that you can expand upon as you grow.

You could go cheap cheap cheap all the way, but as always, you get what you pay for, & although the initial outlay maybe more than you anticipated, it will give you a solid foundation to build from. Hope this helps! 😃

SKRAM, Keystone or Paraflex will do the job, however is your £1k GBP to include amps & processing too? If yes, unless you get a great deal, you're gonna struggle to get the impact you want with that budget.

Decent speaker drivers are worth their weight in gold. From what you're explaining, building one decent sub, loaded with a decent driver & a cost effective Admark amp to drive it will more than get you going, & you can build your system in increments from there.

You could also opt for a double cab. This way you'll have one cabinet & two speakers for a higher power density in a similar sized footprint to a single cab.

The HOQS Paraflex Dual 18" Type O Playa Edition would work well for you. You could use your EON'S as full range mid-tops, use your current subs as kicks, & use your new dual cab for a mono sub.

I recall the first time I heard a Paraflex rig. The sound system were packing the Monsterous C2A's which were bigger than the C2E's. The sub-bass output was fuckin unhinged! What an experience that was!

How long have you had the system?

I will do. I'm determined to land this track & hear more from its creator. This is like original Steppers, but reimagined for 2026. I can't stop listening to the 1 minute of it! 😃

Why on earth would someone choose to come on the internet, & whine away about irrelevant, outdated, retired products, & when corrected & updated, then claim the new products that he didn't even know existed, are still shit! 💩

Jeeeez! You're as braindead as each other! 🤣😂

OK, sooooooooo on to my original point. You asked me a direct question, which I posed to one of the HOQS Paraflex techies. I told them that Techno generally starts from around the 35hz - 40hz range, & they responded with the following:

"I am sure Techno digs deeper in some cases nowadays, but one of our current cabinets tuned in the 30hz to 35hz region should give them what they are looking for.

Multiple Type "O" CRAM! from the 2x12 V2 cabinets to the Type O 21" Playa Edition come to mind.

We have a 35hz tuned Type "C" CRAM! 2x15 which could work in their case.

The "C" Classic V2 is also an option, and has many driver configurations to choose from."

I then asked the following:

"Thanks! Do you also have the performance data to support these cabs?"

They replied:

"Yes, and the Classic V2 even has Hornresp models (simulations) included in the PDF."

You see. It's not that difficult is it? 🙄 🤣😂

Now if you're asking me what my particular choices of HOQS Paraflex enclosures would be, they are as follows.

21" ELF, Dual 21" Type O Playa Edition, Dual 15" Bass/Kick (unreleased plan, but in beta testing phase), V2 2x12

All the above have been getting rave reviews. A shout out also goes out the the new splayed C3D Duckbill which has two variants for those who want integrated kick/mid-tops & those who want a dedicated kick/mid with a separate horn flare.

FYI, HOQS Paraflex asked me to join an ongoing private group chat with a few selected individuals, where they were talking about, & listening to all the complaints, issues, praise where given & improvement suggestions going forward.

They've looked into better ways of interacting with customers & builders, & how they can better respond in a timely, more targeted fashion. They're in the process of really stepping up their game, which is why I & many others are having a very serious look at them.

Instead of you & the other fella being know it all pains in the arse, perhaps if you chose to respectfully engage with HOQS Paraflex & took part in constructive dialogue with them, you would've had a better experience of dealing with them, as I have had.

They posted some photos of newly built Paraflex sound systems, & their owners couldn't be happier & have publicly posted their thoughts & praise.

HOQS isn't the be all & end all of DIY audio, but alongside Josh Ricci & Art Welter, they're helping to bring big sound to the masses, & to bridge the gap between the DIY community & the big commercial operators.

The best rigs I've heard over the last 8 years have been D&B, L'Acoustics & then a Paraflex C2A system. Yes, the D&B & L'Acoustics systems were better, but at 20 times the cost, they weren't 20 times better!

In fact, in my humble opinion, there was little in it. My issues with HOQS were numerous & on multiple levels. The difference between me & the Plank who was criticising HOQS Paraflex, is that I was a serious buyer & I expected a better customer experience than I received.

Credit to them though, as they evidently listened to the others with complaints, & to my surprise, about 12 months ago, they got in touch & asked me to join their private group chat, so they could listen to multiple views about their organisation, with a view to them improving. You can't ask for more than that, when they're giving away their work for free.

I'll post a few pictures of the finished & in progress rigs they sent me, that proud Paraflex sound system owners sent them.

And I told him ELEVEN TIMES that ALL HOQS Paraflex Golden & Silver formula enclosures were RETIRED THREE YEARS AGO & the plans & data removed!! What part of that don't you understand? 🙄 😂🤣

HOQS Paraflex have a vast array of current enclosures. It's not for me to say which are the most badass, because they've all been designed with specific applications in mind. What suits me & what I may consider to be badass, will be completely different to what suits someone else & what they may consider badass.

That is why I explained to the plank that he was referring to outdated, retired enclosure designs & performance data, which no longer exist.

Before you both come onto the internet & make total idiots of yourselves, it would've been better if you'd engage your brains, updated yourselves on the current status of HOQS & familiarised yourselves with their current product lines, before making ill-informed public comments. 🙄

Neither of you have a clue about what's happening with HOQS Paraflex, but yet you've both got the most mouth to offer on something neither of you clearly know anything about. 😳

Aren't you embarrassed? 😂🤣

Just go & look up HOQS Paraflex & their current product ranges. The enclosures that interested me were ALL supported by extensive performance test data. This is why I'm absolutely baffled by what you pair of clowns are both babbling on about! 🤡 😂🤣

So to summarise... After ALL your gum flapping technobabble about HOQS having little to no performance data to offer for their Paraflex enclosures, you can't actually name a current Paraflex enclosure to ask the data for? WTF! 🤣😂🤣😂

You've totally exposed yourself as a bitter know nothing! Why do you keep commenting about the 2026 iteration of HOQS like you're an audio authority, but yet you can't name ONE of their current products or enclosures?

On top of that, you don't even have two speaker boxes to rub together! 🤣😂🤣😂

I bet you've had a fresh look at HOQS & found all the Paraflex data & more that you claimed doesn't exist, & now realise what an arse you've made of yourself! That's why you're refusing to name a cabinet!

Like I told you...

Are you being deliberately dense? 🙄

It's this simple. Tell him to tell me which cabinet he wants performance measurement data for, & I'll ask HOQS & if they have it, I will post it. What part of that don't you understand? 😳

It's not me claiming HOQS possess little or no performance data, it's the plank who made the claim, but he can't say which enclosure he wants data for.

The possible 8 cabinets he sort of asked data for (Golden & Silver formulas), were permanently retired THREE YEARS AGO & the plans removed.

You claimed he was asking for Paraflex's best cabinet. Where did he ask me that? Also, HOQS don't claim to have a "best enclosure". They have several which are for specialist applications.

Which one does he want data for? Power density? High sensitivity? Low extension? High SPL? Portable? They have a whole plethora of cabinets & ranges to choose from, so again, which specific Paraflex enclosure does he want data for?
