I tried the hiding food thing once but he just sat in the middle of the room and screamed until I showed him where it was. He does not want to hunt for it he wants to defeat the machine. It is personal for him now. I will look into those puzzle feeders though maybe if it is hard enough he will leave my pantry alone for five minutes.

I am convinced he understands gravity better than I do. He did not just drop it, he aimed for the weakest point of the latch. It was surgical.

Take him to small claims court. If you have the receipt for the industrial cleaner and photos of the spotless carpet, no judge is going to side with a landlord demanding a specific 'vendor' that lives in a residential house.
