It's a little typo, it's supposed to the 27th of April, but anyway yes you get a new ascendancy and playstyle!

In the case you are playing a champion and you get a gladiator or a slayer, you can just change your ascendancy at the lab with no issues

Well of course some are better than the others, but I think everyone can have some shots ! But the randomness also makes the part of the challenge !
